I have what is apparently called the "red ring of death" on my Xbox 360. Does anyone have any idea about how I can fix this problem without spending much money? Thanks
send an e-mail to Microsoft and they will give you the info on how to return it for repair as long as you haven't cracked it open it should be free of charge. You can also Google : "xbox red ring of death "
it takes less then a month, they have fantastic service because their system is so poorly made go to xbox.com and under services i believe it is you online send the request for the repair, they then give you option of printing a mail lable and getting your own box or they send you your own box, you send the system without wires, custom face places and without the hard drive.
I had this repair done about 2 yrs ago, you'll need to package it, the rep will tell you the rest.mine was collected and returned by courier,I'm in the u.k. I think it works the same worldwide, and it is a good return time too, your warranty is 2yrs,and your box must be under that time for free repair to apply.I did it by phone.go to.. www.xbox.com/support ..ray..
A reply I made on another thread. To all 360 users! Red Ring of Death has two stages as far as I am aware. You do not get one, then the other as it is my understanding that they are seperate issues. If you happen to have just three rings it is a workable problem. First remove the disk from the tray. Wrap a heavy blanket around the system and turn it on. Walk away and wait for the system to overheat. The system should shut down on its own. Remove blanket and let system cool for 2-3 hours. Turn on and it should work fine. At least three of my friends have had this work for them, as well as working for me. You may need to repeat periodicly but it beats waiting for a new one. If it doesn't work, no harm done just call Microsoft If you have all four rings, call Microsoft because your system is f**ked!
The best way to fix an XBOX 360 is not to buy one! Just like everything Microsuck makes, its designed to Fail! PS3 is the best way to go, never had a problem with mine or heard of any problems. When I did have the 360 I had to get it fixed at least twice before I traded it in for the PS3.
Musso, each system has it's own shortfalls as well as area's where each excels at. For each person you know who has switched from Xbox to the PS3 I can name someone who went the oposite. For me I enjoy the online play of the xbox over the PS3. Others the oposite. To each his own.
4 rings mean that your video cables are loose or not plugged in, the towel trick from what i understand is a temporary relief for the system, but it still needs to be repaired.
Weird, this time last week i was attempting to fix my nephews 360 but was stopped because i couldnt get past one small black screw at the front,i'll be back at it once i get the right head/allen key(p9?). If its still under warranty send it back,if its out of warranty heres some useful links YouTube - How To Fix the Red Ring of Death PERMENANTLY!!!! YouTube - The Towel Trick YouTube - How To Open An Xbox 360 YouTube - Fix an xbox 360 with Red Ring Of Death ~ e74 ~1 red light -- PART 1 YouTube - How to put an Xbox 360 back together ' reassemble '
I did the towel thing and it worked for a few minutes but then started to freeze and now it is back to the three red rings
For the more permenant fix youll need the p9 screwdriver and heatpaste,if you get things to work let me know.
beacause in l america the xbox doesnt have official distributor i brought it from the Empire and modded it fan fix acceleration of fans so air extraction much more fan disipator on the gpu space for the box to breathe and pump air lift the xbox with some pair of things ( i dont know how to say in english gomitas de pija de caucho pelotudos) so that it breaths through all the vents well aired and cool places thats it no more rrod problems
well its a pity the ps3 just earned sony a minus 2.5 billion profit (rite?) and each time less designers are relying on the platform and the poor internet service sony offers. + new jasper chipset 90 nm gpu present almost no problems, upcoming valhalas will perform even more
Sony made the mistake of not making the PS3 compatible with PS2 games, which def. prevented many people from getting the PS3 since they still make PS2 games and some of the best console games of all time are on the PS2. A bit of an oversight there.
You want a good system, get the Gamecube. I've had mine for like 7 years, never a single problem, and the games are still awsome. Metroid Prine, Starfox, Super smash bros., Lord of the Rings, Mario Kart, the list goes on
NOOOOO!!!!!!! The towel thing is one fo the worst things to do! It can overheat the inside of your system and melt the wiring and some internal components. Im pretty sure it frucks up your warranty as well.
Well I didn't actually do it all the way. I let it sit for a while and it started getting hot so I got nervous and turned it off. It only came on for like 2 minutes before it started freezing again and went back to the red ring thing, hopefully it won't be that bad. Thanks for the heads up though.
It turns out the RRoD happens just because Microsoft made their own graphics cards (or something along those lines), and they're so poorly made they overheat. I had the RRoD on my original XBox back in 2004 (I was playing Star Wars Battlefront... ) but I haven't had it since, thank god.
