hi all been keen on ww2 for a long long while since a child, like i said a long while especially interested in the then and now type of the battle scenes just seeing what is left today archeology etc . my brother and i also interested in such things keep trying to plan a trip to the hurtgen forest apparently lots of the battle ground still to see . i think this started with help from my dad while i was young lad 15 or so ,who was a member of an aircraft preservation society here in lincolnshire england (bomber county) in the late 70s . we managed to get on a few digs on crash sites local to us usaually lancasters/spitfires , there were loads of raf /usaf bases around us and as such loads of crash sites. i think my ideal job would be working for the war graves commission fascinating. so why have i taken so long to join and post? well the answer is i am a carpet fitter and get to meet lots of people young and old,but my fasination in the war usually results in any older customers i get to visit being grilled on what they got up to in those days, today i got to meet a lovely old chap called gerry who although 90 years old gave me a small insight 1/2 hour or so into what he did and got up to in those years.and although 90 his marbles are all there recalling his years of battle he would probably of sat for hours if work had not called me away. but poor old gerry has cancer ,although not visibly showing it which makes me think how many more of these fasinating guys and women i will meet and get tales from? alas i think not many so with what he has given me i wanted to try and recall it,and share it with like minded people who share our interest and gratitude in what these people went through and did good or bad for our way of life today. but i tried posting on the honor service valour forum but was not allowed so where can i post before i forget, my mind is not as good as gerrys

Hello and Welcome to the Forum! I suggest you just make your post in the WWII General section....moderators can then place it in the proper place if it is not already
