Speaking of that name, I don't know if anyone here is familiar or not? with a fine actor by the name of David Dukes, but he is not to be confused with this David Duke jerk. David Dukes is best known for his role in The Winds of War maxi-series that also starred such greats like Robert Mitchum, Sir John Gielgud and Jane Seymour. David Dukes passed away sometime ago. I THINk Dukes was also in War and Remembrance? but can't remember for sure? I guess I need to rewatch both of them again soon just to check that out ;-))

Great replies people.. thanks for enlightening me.

I strongly agree with what some of you said, You vote for someone based on what they stand for, not what color, sex, religion they are. It seems Obama's falling into the same old politician rut. Promise the world, then change stance once elected and blame previous administrations (fair to an extent)
Just wait now for the promise that it will all be fixed and solved in 4 years, which conveniently means he'd need a second term to achieve his goals.

I think Obama gets "Air" time because he's president of USA, and (sorry, i hate to say this) has the power to turn the world into a war ravaged mess.

Whether or not OLDD really has much realistic choice in the matter? he will still have to fight somekind of war against those terrorist scum. Either there or over here. I highly doubt he wants the fighting to happen here so-even though he ran on the premise of ending those wars-I THINK he's finally coming to term with reality and seeing that he simply cannot keep certain promises he made which probably helped get him elected. Other promises are already broken-such as-his no new taxes thing. Gee, I WONDER where we heard tha one before? ;-)) And yes, I know the answer to that question ;-))

No, what was said during the campaign was this. Obama made a number of promises, and in "promise" #126 he said that he would:

"work with military commanders on the ground in Iraq and in consultation with the Iraqi government to end the war safely and responsibly within 16 months." (emphasis mine)

Note the time he used, not within the first weeks or even months of his presidency (which is about 8 months old), but within a year and a half.

When that is done or not, then and only then, would this other campaign statement (#134) come into play:

"As Obama removes our combat brigades from Iraq, he will send at least two additional brigades to Afghanistan, where the Taliban is resurgent. He will also provide our armed forces with the reset capability that they need. He will replace essential equipment, and he will ensure that our men and women in uniform get the care and support they have earned."

Is the 16 months up yet? I think not. Was he completely informed as to the situations in either theater of conflict by the Bush administration during the campaign? I think not.

BTW, here is a link to the "Obamameter" to keep the "remembered promises" and the real ones in line:
