Why is the Labour party kicking up a stink over the Sun newspaper? All there doing is making a mountain out of a mole hill, all news papers have agenda so whats all the fuss about?
God knows Richard. Back in 1992, the Scottish Sun switched from the Tories to the SNP the day before the General Election, so it's not that unusual.
they lozt the plot a long time ago in labour hq.. they nevsr minded when blair and brown invited them into number ten when each took charge along with thatcher..so why clap and cheer like demented sheep when someone rips it up on camera. there is no labour party. its just a name as democdats is just a name. the ideology died in a wmd lie in iraq not in the sun or sky news. deal with rhe devil and he will bite you one day. labour should spend 20 years in opposition and see if they can read their own history. they can all rot in hell as far as im concerned.
Nu-Labour are so entombed in their own PR they've alluded to god-like status, so any fool questioning that is very much like Judas. Their ivory towers are built so high they can't see the tops of people's heads, let alone know what people actually think... Meanwhile the Sun, et al, although in a very different business, make a point of knowing what the common folk think because they make a living out of them.
Emphasis on 'common'. Anyone foolish enough to believe everything they read in the Sun or rely on it for unbiased opinion is deluding themselves. The paper has a clear agenda. 1)Advance Rupert Murdoch's influence. 2) Constantly plug Sky TV and slate all other forms of Televison. 3) Bury any negative news about Murdoch and his Empire and intimidate other papers to do the same.
What's the differences between the Labour Party and the Sun? The Sun has got great t*ts every day unlike Harriet Harman. One joke doing the rounds.
Speaking of Harriet Harman did anyone catch her closing speech, how crass of her to think they have the right to stay in office. The voters will decide if Labour should stay in or not.
I agree, it's the worse example of modern media but it does seem almost every other media empire is running the same race. The only exception is the BBC but unfortunately rather than that meaning they're some beacon of excellence it doesn't. Their specialisation seems to be trying to keep a long list of folk happy, with the government at the top of the list and the viewers at the very bottom. Luckily we've got the web, so if there's any single story you've an interest in you can decode the various stories and get a rough idea of what's actually going on. Takes no small effort though and might explain why politics are so unpopular and folk would rather stick with tales about celebs. I can't help thinking this dumbing down is secretly preferred by the political class, they're just about the only folk who can make promises to the public they've no intention of keeping, are employed without contract, and who have no real independent scrutiny over what they might actually choose to do. When the higher echelons of society act like spivs and criminals it's difficult to see what the benefit might be to us "proles" in being honest and honourable, which explains why so many aren't.
Chad, you forgot the Daily Mail, the Sun is pointless pap but the Mail actively disseminates lies (there y'are Richard, I am nothing if not predictable ) That said I take the general point of the clash between the Sun and Labour, ultimately it comes down to the fact that the papers should report government policy, not shape it. On the other hand I think it is rather sickening that Labour pick now to make an issue of it, after years as the lapdogs of the press they now decide to bite back? Too little too late! It is part of a much wider problem of course, the reason the gutter press know what people think is because for the most part they tell them what to think (look at health scares and science for a perfect example). Sadly though the efforts of the papers to push their agenda shapes the perception of public thought and so guides the government when they decide which particular knee-jerk policy to pursue.
Well I rate the Daily Wail with the Daily Excess and the Grauniad, they're more for the perpetually shocked, which is very fashionable and they do quite well with just the two titles being around a third of all national sales. Although we're slating it the Sun's position does get it some incredible scoops, they broke the news that we were off to Iraq at a time when such a suggestion was laughable, even though it turned out to be true... I tend to dislike most papers anyway, the one publication I do rate and have done for decades is Private Eye. Being fortnightly does limit it though.
