    my normandy attempt..

Your planning was in general very good. In reality the Allies opted to invade the Normandy coastline, due to the defences in and around Calais. Likewise in June 1944 a storm broke as the invasion force was about to set off. High Seas are very damaging to small boats, Eisenhower delayed the invasion by a day and the Allies successfully created beachheads on the Normandy coastline.

You would have done well to listen to the advise of Montgomery, but nevertheless, had you opted to delay until the weather improved it may have been possible for you to successfully land near Calais.

    Same here on first go.

My second go, was Normandy with three beaches only and still worked out.

Word for word with mike's assessment, but instead of Rotterdam mine is Calais. I decided to take on the fortress!
They said I did good on the actually carrying out of the battle, but the initial choice of Calais was stupid. Obviously.

    2nd attempt

You opted to attack a very heavily defended stretch of coastline. The attack, presuming that everything would go as well as this website has allowed, would still have cost thousands of lives and may not be sustainable. Given the likely loss of life and the probable counter attacks from the German forces in the area it is quite possible that the liberation of Europe after the landing may not have occured, you may have been better off doing as the Allies DID in 1944. Operation Overlord opted to land on the less heavily defended beaches of Normandy. Even then there were high casualties, particularly amongst American troops landing on Omaha beach.

Nevertheless you have thought things out reasonably well and have paused for thought at the appropriate times. You're not quite an Eisenhower but probably a little more useful than some First Word War general
