The Red Rabbi says he would like to have worked as a chaplain in Nuremberg prison, doing his best to save what might be left of the souls of those convicted to death in the Nuremberg Trials.
Good lord, no! If I am a citizen of any of the belligerants, I would probably do my patriotic duty to the best of my ability--meaning I'd be somewhere deep, deep in the REMF world doing something inconspicuous but absolutely vital to the success of the war effort such as proper documentations to keep the troops well-nurished with C-rations or having the honor and priviledge to buy the farm on the first go. x_x
I was talking about the ones like the Jagdpanther one. And the ones that say crap like, "The SS 'cos it's cool".
Dont you mean Jagdtiger? And to expand upon that: I am sure if any of you wanted to sere in ground forces, I would think you would want to serve in something with a High Kill/low death ratio. Except the Allies had never destroyed a Jagdtiger in combat and the ones that were destroyed were scuttled by their own crews because they had broken down. On the part about struggling to keep that steel monster moving, well I will say that I would do that to show my love for my country and to show my enemies that I still defy them. Not in the sense of "ALL HAIL THE REICH!!!!" but to sow that there were some that would go down fighting. All though in the sense that my tank was lost I would run at the Allied lines screaming Komerade!! with my hands up.
No need for the Allies to destroy Jagdtigers as the German army was doing that very well, so why bother? Besides there were so few (77) built they were hardly noticed on the field. And if noticed who cared, as it was going to be blown away by its own side anyway sooner than later! I thought your location said Nova Scotia, Canada. Were there that many Jagdtigers in Canadian service in WW2? Or are you implying something else? Previous thread: http://www.ww2f.com/weapons-wwii/22852-jagdtigers-combat.html
Well I was having a thought, and was wondering if it would have been a good idea to be the fellow who helped Goering to bury his treasures the night before he surrendered to the Americans Regards Kruska
Not saying that I am against the Allied side. But if I were German I know that there was nothing left to do in late 44-early-45 to do except Defy or Die. As well as that I think myself to be a Proud Person and I do not know for sure but I think that I would still fight unless presented with the chance to surrender. Although in my 2 volume set COMBAT:WWII it seems that the allies had no mercy for surrendering German tank crews around the time and the aftermath of the Battle of the Bulge. As well as that I would have liked to serve beside my Great-Uncle in the 166th in Italy. Stories from records tell that they were liked by all the Italian towns they passed.
I would definitely join Red Army. More specifically 1122nd Rifle Regiment. Maybe I would've had pleasure to be one of Ivan Sidorenko's trainees.
