    great pics Skipper ..
The pics earlier in the thread show some canals etc ..
The scenery on the pics is definately north German , not Dutch or Flemish .
These houses depicted are in 'Hansen' style . I suggest it might be Bremen or Lubeck . Propably a larger Hanseatic city .

You may be right Heinrich, that's where I am still focussing on that area. I will dig for more pictures with monuments , someone may recognize a building soon or late.

    Sorry Skip , I was wrong .

Yes the houses are hanseatic but ..its not Lubeck ..its Gent in belgium wich has Hanseatic middleaged architecture in its very center also.
I was set on the wrong foot by the earlier pic of what looked like to be the Holstein tor in Lubeck ..

Looks a bit like it , but no..

But I knew I'dd seen those canalhouses once before and went on searching where it might have been i've seen those .

Have a look at the pics below and that will take any doubts away immediately:

So it is Gent! So the large station with the "B" logo wagons must be Gent too. I also have a picture of a large square brick castle , I wonder whether that's Gent too. Bedankt Heinrich! Also do you think the parade on page one could be Gent too?

Ill see if can identify the square for you ..must be close to the belfort too if its the same city as all buildings on the pics seem to be pretty close to each other .
Good thing is that Gent is well documented as its a very popular and touristic historical city . May even be possible to use Google earth as a viewing tool too :)

the castle is Gent too , its called the 'Gravensteen ' see below

The large square might very well be the 'Korenmarkt' (grain market) but thats hard to say ..as i'm not from there but propably a Belgian forummember can help out on that one now we know the rest was definately snapped in Gent.

good find Heinrich I knew it was not Lübeck due to water and overall dimensions of the twin towers, in fact there really is no true resemblance due to wartime and modern photos with the road encircling the Tor's, my how they bend toward the center due to the uneasiness of the ground

    cheers

'The force' must be with us Skip
It had to be a city with electric tramlines too ..and Gent has Trams !
    After some googleing found it.

The tower is Gent also , its called 'de boeken toren ' or the Booktower .
Its Gents 4th high building and used to be the national library (?) ,now its the Gent University library.
Found some pics of the booktower as it is today
is quite a nice historical building too .

Awesome Heinrich!! so now I can tell you all the pics from page one are from this square too. This mean the whole parade took place in Flanders from the start and that they moved from Gent to Northern France.
Okay , are these buildings from Gent too?

Goddamnit, as I was reading through these pages I was so eager to post that they were taken in my home town, then I saw that someone beat me to it. Oh well, better luck next time. I can't however remember some of the buildings in there.

In fact, said square is quite the distance away from the Belfort, I would say about 4 Km.

As for the Korenmarkt, chances of the parade being held there are non-existant as we already know which square it was, but de korenmarkt is quite small.

The square where the parade is held is the ST Pietersplein Colt , but i think the pic with the truck with the flac behind it and the other pic with troops show the exact same large building , maybe its a university building or school and also propably next to a church by the looks of the other building on the side .
My guess its pretty close to the ST Pietersplein too . The other pic with the trucks and the 'Hougardia' cafe or hotel must be Gent too as the tramrails in the street are obviously visible .

Yes, I've noticed from the pictures. The only place where the other pictures could be taken would be in the "sint-pieters kerk". this should be on the right side of the overview picture.

Yes, the MG 15 would have been made obsolescent, if not obsolete, as many aircraft-mounted rifle-calibre machine guns were after the very earliest years of the war. So in the absence of any cuff titles, what could these young recruits be? Luftwaffe field-division recruits? Ground crews receiving small-arms and antitank artillery training? They are not members of the Hermann-Göring Division, that much is clear. I think I'll go with Luftwaffe ground crews, possibly even ancilliary troops, receiving their standard quota of small-arms and antitank artillery training. And between 1941 and 43 seems likely for the time--that's casting a wide-enough net, I think.
