I hope I am posting this in the right place. I was digging around looking for information about Goebbels and I found this set of pictures about him. It even has a few pictures dated far back as 1916. Untitled Normal Page
Thanks, sox for a good fined. Maybe the stunning reference is meant in the same way we describe Medusa.
And while I don’t think of her as "stunning", perhaps that was in the context of the times. Not plain, not "handsome", not a "beauty", but perhaps well coifed, well dressed, well mannered? For a little home movie of she and her children this is certainly not a Medusa with her off-spring. See: Goebbels family home movies# Some of the other photos of her are a bit more flattering.
What is the last image of (the burnt corpse)? At first I thought it may have been Himmler's body but he killed himself with poison didn't he?
There is a shot of Goebbels and Magda's burnt bodies somewhere else as well, the children were spared the incineration. And Himmler clamped down on a cyanide capsule in British custody, and his corpse was buried in an unmarked grave with no preservation at all. He has probably fed the trees in the woods for all the years even as any memory of him faded.
Perhaps it was the impression of people who met her. Somebody who is not conventionally attractive can seem much more so if you meet them in the flesh and get a more rounded sense of their personality.
He sure looked aryan....... and that last picture is hilarious. The Russians must have been so happy to find his body intact so they could display it.
I still find it hard to believe what his wife Madga said about her children before the end of the war. I will not let my children live in a world without National Socialism. It would have been interesting to hear what Goebbels would said on the stand at the Nuremberg trails at least I would have liked to hear. Your welcome guys for the images.
It must be remembered that Magda was far from a conventional female in Nazi Germany, she was born illegitimate, the Catholic daughter of an engineer named Oskar Rietschel and 22-year-old Auguste Behrend who were married later in the year after she was born. They were divorced in a short while, and then her mother remarried and Magda ended up with a full-blood Jew as a step-father (Freiberg?), but she never converted to Judism, but she had dated a young Jew at some time before she married her first husband Günther Quandt. He (Quandt) requested that she convert from Catholic to Protestant, which she did. Later in life she had converted to a form of Buddhism while married to Goebbels. As toward her children and their deaths she fell back on her Buddhism, a style of Buddhism that had elements of Hinduism including earned reincarnation. Because her children were still innocent, she believed, they were guaranteed rebirth in more favorable conditions than in the life which had run its course. Magda, once remarked to a friend that "she wished to offer the children a new and better chance in life and for this they would first have to die." A rather confused mind-set as per religions I would think, especially if one considers "Nazism" a style or type of religion as Himmler did. Born a Catholic, raised by a Jewish father, dating a Jewish boy, converting to Protestantism, then Buddhism (with a touch of Hinduism), grafted onto Nazism.
Perhaps she feared for the future of her children in a Allied occupied Germany? I doubt her children did anything wrong during the war but perhaps she feared they would be persecuted by either the government, Germans looking for payback, etc. For instance, in Russia during the revolution, the Tsar's children had little to do with the conditions in Russia yet they were treated the same. It reminds me of the Greek play Medea where Medea after killing Jason's finance by gifting her poisoned clothes through her children kills her children for fear that they will be mistreated and blamed for the killings.
Too true, with her muddled concept of the Karma wheel she perhaps thought she was giving her children the better choice rather than the worse. If she believed that reincarnation slant to the depth of her soul, it is possible that (to her) death would be a "clean slate" and this life, for which her children were blameless, would be in their karmic "past". I was only pointing out that she probably wasn't a "heartless bitch" or some other perversity, just what she was and a reflection of her own life and times. Not making excuses, looking for reasons.
wow thanks for the pics,i wasn't really prepared to see his burned body at the end though, it caught me by surprise.
I know Heinrich Himmlers daughter had a really rough time when she was growing up. She got death threats from her classmates when she tried to go to school. She had a long time of depression where she would stay in her room screaming for her farther. Even though Himmler did a lot of bad things but that still was her dad. I could only see the same thing happening to the Goebbels children as well. I think it was a desperate act to free her children from the horror of knowing that their parents had millions of people killed could possibly one of the reasons. Not wanting the children to know their parents where monsters.
Possibly, that would kind of make sense, without National Socialism and their position with the party they were essentially living targets. Although their step son lived a pretty successful life after the war but perhaps he wasn't as "incorporated" with the family business like the other children were?
Magda is prettier in this picture; different style of girls were in vogue. That's an evil thing they did with their children. picture
