Sad breaking news. Just a short time ago, some bastard at Fort Hood, murdered seven people and wounded at least 12 others. At least that sicko is in authorities hands and I hope they skin it alive :-(

This happened at the Soldiers Readiness Center and it's not yet known if the casualties are all Civilian? or all Military?

ABsolutely disgusting to say the least. May all these fine folks rest in peace.

The spokesman, Sgt. Major Jamie Posten, said processing center was where soldiers “cycle through as they prepare to deploy.”
I bet when this comes out, they were multi-tour veterans. Good God, Good God...what a horrible, horrible tragedy.

Hi Gents and also thanks for the updates. Im just now back from going out and are listening to that sad update. :)) I've said it before and will say it again, I can never "see" how someone just HAS to take innocents lives? WHy the heck can't those losers, just do themselves in and leave a stinking note telling why?

I think I already know what the answers may be? Greed and Cowardice for two possibles.

One of the shooters has been identified as Major Nidal Malik Hassan, he was apparently in a off state of mind about his deployment to Iraq. He was also in the army for six years.

Gunman kills 12, wounds 30 at Fort Hood - Crime & courts- msnbc.com

The victims were a mix of civilians and military personnel. Apparently other incidents have happened at Fort Hood pretty recently, were they ever investigated? More specifically, investigated to see what caused them?

Some people snap for reasons that others would consider as trivial or outlandish. It's hard and I don't know how to express my revulsion to such an act.

A news report on cable TV tried to broach the idea that the shooter was an infiltrator because of his name. Once the cable news guys realized the guy they were interviewing wouldn't fall for their hook or story slant, they backed off. The new slant they were exploring was that the suspect who was a psychiatrist was overwhelmed with the trauma he heard from his patients who had just returned from combat.

Personally, I'd go for the simplest reason. One cable news report, a European one, said the guy was angry over being deployed to Iraq.

Ive heard mixed news all night long. Right now some Army Officer is giving an interview ot the media and still alot of details are not being filled in. This officer just said that the murderer is alive and not under the threat of imminent death. The female police officer earlier reported as being killed-is alive. This lady shot the creep apparently more than once and the creep I understand-is alive and not close to death but I am guessing on what mixed stuff I hear-also that it is unable to speak???

Reports this morning say he shouted "Allah Akbar" prior to shooting. As a single man he probably had visions of 72 virgins. There were co-workers interviewed who said he spoke frequently about his disagreements with our wars and larger battle with Islamic terrorism.
The idea that he just "snapped" doesn't hold water. Psychiatrists, even in the military. don't normally carry weapons. He thought this one over. This was pre-meditated.

(WASHINGTON AP)Federal authorities have seized the suspected Fort Hood shooter's computer and are looking for clues that may have led to the military massacre on Thursday that left 13 people dead and 30 wounded.

A U.S. law enforcement official said that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's apartment in Killeen, Texas, was searched early Friday. It was not immediately known if FBI agents found anything suspicious on Hasan's computer files. A military official said investigators also are sifting through materials Hasan carried with him during the shooting incident and evidence left in his vehicle, which was found parked at the base. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE.
Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

It would be interesting to know if he has any basic military training at all. From what I have read it looks like he has only been a medical student/doctor during his military career.

In the Norwegian armed forces medical doctors and preachers walk right into lieutenant or major's rank without having marched a mile. I guess some of the purpose of military training is to screen the unfit, the misfits and the weirdoes from the rest.
Here you get people into the system that may never should have been there in the first place.

This section is encluded in that link I put up:

Hasan earned his rank of major in April 2008, according to a July 2008 Army Times article.

He served eight years as an enlisted soldier. Military records show he also served in the ROTC as an undergraduate at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry there in 1997.

So one would assume that his military training was more than just a 'doctor" walking into a rank by dint of civilian university training. Eight years as an enlisted soldier almost guarantees more than a bit of "basic" training in soldiering.
