I find myself quite intriged by how many poeple want to serve in those two oh-so-special airbourne divisions. I wonder if its anyother reason then from watching a certain mini-series:confused:

I suppose other than the fact that it is a fantastic miniseries, you do get a sense that being in the Airborne really sets you apart from other infantrymen. Not to take anything away from the other servicemen who served during the war, but they do talk a lot about how if you serve with the best theres a good chance you might come home alive considering that all the guys in the line are better trained.

I guess that I differ from majority of the ppl here. I would not want to be in some special formation or unit. The same Finnish Jäger unit that I served IRL last year would do fine for me in WW2 ;)

I'd serve in the Pacific with the US Navy. More specifically onboard the USS Enterprise as either a pilot or a mechanic. Or onboard the USS Missouri as a gunner's mate.

But werent the units regarded as the best called the best because they earned a reputation in blood? As well as the units regarded as the elite were usually on the frontline far longer then other units. That slims your chances quite a bit.

    For me...

It would have to be an SS tank regiment in a King Tiger. BUT I only because I love the tanks and uniforms. Other than that the SS can go to hell lol.

But no really all the horrible things aside about the SS.....that would be my pick.

My first choice to be on the USS Texas (great survival rate, only one fatality two world wars). That or a Marine on the Texas.

I would serve in Panzer VI Tiger I with Michael Wittmann instead of Boby Wohl (his gunner) and I'd operate that 88mm freaking Gun and hunt down those poor T-34s &Shermans!! but I'm gonna be aware of Canadians Fireflies and P-51s!!! Haha!!

What is it with you and yelling? Almost as if you go out of your way to get you post noticed.

No matter how good of a gunner you would have been, stuck in that tank, you would have never seen the end of the war. ;)
