Hello to everyone. I am known as Anderan on the internet, I am a 18 (19 in a week) year old college student, major is computer programming if your wondering. I have been interested in WWII history for a long while now, and my Great Grandfather was in the Navy on the USS Keith during WWII in the Atlantic. I'm interested in finding out more about what exactly the ship did during its time out at see and I also would like to find a crew roster of something of the sort so I can figure out what year my Great Grandfather joined the navy, I would ask him but he will have been dead for 9 years as of December 23. I'm also very interested in "What if" scenarios. Not necessarily for the war over all, as in what if the axis won and such, but like what if Operation Downfall had gotten the green light and such. Also my favorite tank of the war is the Sherman Firefly variant.
Welcome aboard, Anderan. Here is a start. It gives some details about the ship itself. Destroyer Escort Photo Index DE- 241 USS KEITH If you can give us details about your Great-grandfather, such as name, where he lived, etc., we might be able to give you more personal details. Good luck.
Thanks for that, there is actually some doubt in my mind as to if that is the actual ship he served on as he as only 16 when he joined and he was able to join using his brothers birth certificate, so it may list his brother rather than him, I will have to contact my grandmother to find out his brothers name, as for where he lived he is from Mt. Vernon Indiana, his name was Lloyd Overfield, though everyone know him as Skeeter.
