Hello. I'm pretty much a lurker, but I forgot to make a post here that I'm sure at least one or two of you will find interesting. I interview combat pilots and draw their airplanes. Anyway, a few months ago, a woman contacted me and asked if I'd like to see the drawings her dad did in WW2. He was a Norden technician in England and also a notorious doodler - his favorite medium were the envelopes used to write home to his young bride. Anyway, these envelopes are about as cool as cool can be...and for the past 6 weeks, I've put a new one up on my site about every week or so. I'm JUST getting ready to post a new one but thought I'd expand the readership a bit by posting in some forums that I haven't been at. I do one at a time - and the link is the little envelope at the bottom of the page. http://www.johnmollison.com I hope you find these as fascinating as I do! Best regards. wily PS - the artist's name is James Hester. PSS - Most of his art features aircraft; the one that's up right NOW, features Hitler.
Glad to have you aboard, wily. Thanks for the link to your site. Those envelopes are a real find. Good stuff.
Thank you for the welcome. Sometimes I forget to communicate outside my mailing list - there are so many people interested in this kind of stuff, I wish telepathy existed so everyone just "knew." But, I'll post here when I update in the future.
Another WW2 letter is up. http://www.johnmollison.com Click on the envelope on the bottom... I've been reading about the Okinawa campaign - I think it's tinged my thinking a bit. But it's a hell of a sketch.
LRusso - I'm VERY GLAD you do!! It's very encouraging to see more and more people appreciating American history.
Wily, I merged all the threads so they are all in one place. That way, people can find them more easily. Just keep putting them here as you put them up. Thanks again.
Good morning! I've been working on a presentation to the Naval Air Museum next month and have posted a graphical version of it online. Find it here: http://www.johnmollison.com Look for the big yellow arrow and click there. Producing this particular "e-chapter" has been a collaborative experience involving people from all over the country, especially the featured pilot and his family. If you've read any of my other e-chapters, you'll be familiar with the style and scope. My hope is that you find it worth your time. And if you know a Marine, would you mind forwarding it onto them? I've learned much about the "Semper Fi" culture and understand their deeply rooted sense of Family. John, keep posting this stuff. This latest installment is tremendous. I (and I'm sure many others) look forward to much more.
Hello! A quick blizzard shut down travel so I took the moment to put up another of Sgt. James Hester's "WW2 Letters" on my website. Click on the little envelope on the bottom of the page. http://www.johnmollison.com
