"The new $58 million visitor center being built for the USS Arizona Memorial is expansive and open-air, a series of island-like buildings much like the Pacific itself and the battles that raged there beginning 68 years ago with America's entry into World War II. Tomorrow's remembrance of Japan's Dec. 7, 1941, surprise attack on O'ahu has a similarly broadened tone. The theme of this year's event, "But Not in Shame: The Aftermath of Pearl Harbor," is a reference to Gen. Jonathan Wainwright's surrender of the Manila Bay islands in the Philippines to the Japanese five months later, in 1942." Interesting. When my dad was in Hawaii he had some mixed feelings about visiting the USS Arizona. He had friends that were at Pearl Harbor during the attack, though I don't know of any that were killed on the USS Arizona. His mixed feelings though came from seeing the many Japanese visitors at the memorial. He hated sitting next to them in the theater watching the movie of the attack. Not saying it's right or wrong-just adding some thoughts to the day. RIP to those that gave all, and thanks to those that are still around
