Do You Still Buy Magazines?

With the magazine print industry in the US facing troubles, I'm curious, how many people still buy magazines?

I tend to buy the odd few every now and then, I used to buy WW2 Magazine at every release until I realized they over sensationalized most of their stuff with "captivating headlines", the kind you would see from your every day newspaper and not something you'd want from a enthusiast magazine.

 

I still subscribe to the Smithsonian magazine, and probaby will continue to do so for the future. Great mag., it and Car and Driver are the only two I get regularly though. I do read most other "news" online, but am considering subscribing to one of the offered "online" extras from US News and World Report. Just haven't figured out if it is worth the extra dust is all.

I just recently subscribed to 303 Magazine, a Denver based magazine company. The readership has grown to include enthusiasts for fashion, art, entertainment and fine dining with a passion for current events and future trends that shape the Denver metropolitan and Aspen lifesyles. I used to subscribe to Snowboarder Magazine, but haven't been on the slopes for a while now... I've been very busy with work, kids, and developing my new business. My day job keeps me in tune with current events, and worldly issues... not to mention the puter' is at the ready for reaserch Other than that, nothing more than the 303 coming every month... I do miss the Denver Post/Rocky Mountain News I used to get... how times have changed - technology that is.

I buy copies of others occasionally. My wife has subscriptions to several (Rachael Ray, Food Network, People, etc.) I like to take them to work, or in the truck on road trips. I love magazines. I agree with newspapers not being the same online...unfortunately I can't get the Knox News-Sentinel or the Atlanta Constitution Journal delivered up here!

 

I dropped all my subscriptions this year except Aeroplane it still has good stuff to offer such as refurbished aircraft and building replacement pieces and such. I quit carrying ww2 mag and armchair general but will probably buy them at the store when an article catches the eye. It just seems that after years of subscribing they rehash stories I have already read.

SKI Magazine

I dropped my subscription to Playboy and Penthouse. Playboy got way too right-wing political and Penthouse started running articles with nekkid men in there with the nekkid women. I like porno just as much as the next guy, but that's where I draw the line! Nowadays when I stroll over to the newstand, I pick up some of the Playboy Special Editions, like Lingerie, Girlfriends, The Girls of...., you know, stuff like that with just pictures....

 

I have no magazine subscriptions at present. I will scan magizines on the news stand, and if I see something that strikes my interest, I will buy the issue. World War II Magazine, Civil War Times, North & South, Military History, MHQ, and Time are the magazines I usually look through.

The only magazine i buy on a regular basis is The Armourer. This is a bi-monthly publication covering militaria collecting as well as articles on conflicts ranging from the Boa War up to WW2.

The magazine has a regular feature on weapons, which has recently focused on soviet small arms.

I still subscribe to WWII magazine; My wife insists on subscribing to the Washington Post for the grocery ads (and it lines the bird cage nicely as well as use for wrapping fish).

Or does that come under a different category of 'Near-Biblical Part-work'?

National Geographic
Shotgun News
Smithsonian
Archeology (Archaeological Institute of America)

I often grab magazines individually as well, especially MilSurp related stuff. Generally season guides to NFL and College teams as well.

I've always preferred having my reading material in my hands vs. the internet, but I'm kind of tactile that way. I still can't bring myself to use e-books and the like.

 

Ditto. I'd buy an issue if it grabbed my attention, but other than that, no. For me it's:

-National Geographic (Don't have a subscription. Most of my collection are back issues I've found at used book sales)
-Various warbird magazines (Ex: Flypast)
-WWII Magazine (I had a subscription to this, but canceled it in order to save some money)

 

I did hesitate over 'ATB', but omitted it on the basis that these days I don't get every copy ( I used to up to #100 ). Many of their articles these days don't really interest me so I look on it more as a 'book purchase' than a 'magazine'......
