    Eric,

Thanks for sharing info on "Gracie", I have enjoyed learning more of her life, despite what people may say of her departure during the war... her legacy in song shall live on!

    all the best,

    Jem

Glad you enjoyed it I knew you would. A footnote in history now. What a fun loving woman she was. And despite all the bull a true patriot to her country.

Sorry, no room for petty arguments the thread was started about Gracie. I am not on this forum for arguments. To boost my posts. Gracie was in a bad spot because of being married to an Italian. Her patriotism was in question. But Britain did not have a problem of using her for the sale of bonds. Or to entertain the troops. I am sure when she visited the Brits and Canadians in France they turned her away. NOT. Go to youtube and listen to her entertain her fellow countrymen in France, New Zealand, North Africa. Yeah, they sound like they hate her. Lets move past this. I am just interested on your thoughts not attacking mine.

it has nothing to do with boosting posts..you are the one that used the word bull not me. That assumption of bull cannot and will not go unanswered when to many this side of the pond it is and was not as you say ..bull. As for boosting posts mods can zero my totals im not here to get figures or medals. gracies leaving of uk in the manner she did is a legitimate talking point on a ww2 forum.and not bull.

    urqh,

Understand your position. Bear with me here, because Gracie's husband Banks was an Italian citizen, I have read that she was forced to leave Britain. I guess my question for you is this:

Was it more the timing of the departure, or being connected to her Italian husband? or both...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gracie_Fields - find World War II on page.

Once again, I know very little about this, and any info or better perspective you can contribute I would appreciate.

    all the best,

    Jem

no jemima nothing to do with italian husband. The timing is the issue. Its debatable as to her being forced. This is an adult we are talking of . Its also same time kennedy was stating enngland was finished and urging all that could of us origin to leave..morale at its worst..i challenge you to search for other uk stars that legged it and then those that came galloping home to the call. ww2 warts and all..not some romantic version of is what this forum does. it matters to some still that all the story and the effects on those thatwere there are known not just A nice sanitisedd version. many still remember her leaving at a time we as a natioon were rallying to the call.own dad crossed borders to join the fight..it matters.

This turned out to be quite the thread... your explination helps a lot urqh. I can only imagine... and I can see how this would effect your life, and your father's.... who was answering the call of war. Timing is such a huge part of life's situations, and the manners in which we react to them. Thank you for your response ;)

    Gentlemen,

I knew nothing of Gracie Fields; I had not heard of her prior to this thread. I have not been following the thread until I received several PMs and read the entire thread start to finish.

I did not take 107thCav's comment as being directed at you Urqh or your discussion, but at the problems the woman encountered. I could be misreading 107th's meaning, but I took his comment to say "despite all the problems with the government, a true patriot to her country."

If that is the case 107thCav, please say so and let's move on. If not, please clarify your intended meaning so that this issue can be resolved.

Wow we have left the planet on this discussion. I don't want to argue it's not what I joined for. It's my opinion versus whoever really hates her. I read her book I visited the websites. The lady obviously meant something to England to be made a Dame. Really in the end Slipdigit all I meant was what I said. She had problems and despite it all still loved her homeland. I just found her to be an interesting entertainer because of my love for music and the arts. Merry Christmas everyone.

Well, then, y'all deal with it, but keep it civil.

Tell you what 107thcav, if you are tired of this thread I can close it for you and leave it here so others may still read about Gracie in the future. On the other hand if you want to carry on in a civil way as Slipdigit told earlier, then go on, let me know what your wish is.

Skipper, I think it would be best that you close it. I believe I got all the information I can get from the other members such as her awards and parts of her collection. Thank you so much.
