Help with reading navy records please

Hi, I'm re posting here as suggested attaching scans of the record I'm trying to interpret. I've worked out that the ships are the ones in brackets and the others are shore bases but am stuck on mosy of the rest.
What is Non-substantive?
What Badges?
Under examinations, what are the qualifications he had?
In remarks, can anyone interpret any of them?

PS Unbelievable, I can't even mamage that! It won't let me attach them as jpeg images because they're too big. Can anyone tell me what to do to get round that please, bearing in mind that what I've done so far stretches my IT skills to the limit. Anything complicated and I'll have to get my grand daughter to help as usual

That's what i did before but it doesn't upload it just says upload failed, which I presume is because it's bigger than the sizes listed below

Thank you all for trying to help but I've tried scanning less than half and it's still nearly 300 KBs - way too big. I don't have the Microsoft office program that was mentioned I just access them with Windows photo gallery and I can't find any way on there of altering the size of images.
Wonder why there is sUch a small limit on attachments? The only other thing I can think of, and I know it's probably not the done thing, is if someone would let me send them straight to them on a private e mail. I am happy to give my e mailaddress first for you to contact me because it's one I only use for family tree research anyway, so please let me know if that's possible

I would suggest bringing them into the Windows paint program then and resizing them as necessary. Don't edit them, just resize them smaller.

1. Download winRAR

2. Right click on your desktop or anywhere on your computer, click "new" and "new folder." Copy and paste the image into said folder.

3. Right click on folder and click "add to archive."

4. Upload the folder turned foldername.rar (whatever you choose to name the file) and upload it to a free file hosting site.

I know many of you are probably overwhelmed by this, but since most scanned images and most digital images are over 2000x2000 and more than a meg each, resizing only works when you know what you are doing. And turning said image into a gif or any other file format destroys the quality of the image.

So it's much easier to upload the files to a file hosting site and supply the link to the documents for all to download.

 

I'm not nearly as familiar with RN records as with USN but, it looks like he signed on in 1936 as a "boy" and then progressively advanced in rate as a signalman. He went from ordinary to leading signalman and performed his dutites in a satisfactory manner. The equivalent in the USN would have been seaman recruit to seaman or, E-1 to 3 and then E-4 as leading signalman I believe, if I have the rating conversion right.

He was "mentioned in dispatches" and recieved an "NGS" medal although I don't know exactly what the RN medal is.

Again, advancement and rating is somewhat different between the USN and RN so I cannot be sure of everything on this record.

Thanks for the advice about file sharing Hans Ludwig - does sound a bit overwhelming as you say but it's something to look into for the future.
And thanks for looking at the records T A Gardiner. I don't know what an NGS medal is either but you're right about his joining up and about his ranking.
