I was wondering what would happen if we picked out a day, oh say Jan. 1, 2010 between 1200 - 1600 GMT, and logged on to WWIIForums? I keep seeing the "most members at one time" down there in the corner and the 13,054 at the top of the page. Just thinking about the "When your brain checks out" thread and my mind wandered away.
We could try to do that. The better times are weekends, around early to mid afternoon in the Eastern US. That is the time that we have the most members awake. Western Europe is mid evening, US is mid-day to afternoon and Oceania is early morning (0600-0800) of the following day.
Also, January 1 may not be the best day because people are traveling due to the holiday, or going to church, or watching football, or whatever. Pick a day that is not a holiday and I think we will get better results.
I can jump on here almost anytime, so if this thing takes off maybe we can get a consensus of the best time and date. Like I said , I was Bored, the mind was wandering and like that song that sticks in your head I keep thinking about the 'most at one time" thing. It would be something to see the World join together if only for a few hours. How about Saturday Jan. 2nd, 2010; 1600-2000 Greenwich Mean Time?
Wait, I thought it was 3 years. Are you softening in your dotage, Urqh? Anyway, January 2 sounds like a winner, if I can only convert GMT to EST. However, I'd probably be on anyway.
3 for the first one 2 for the second...i thought id be generous...we brits cant do first or second..were out foxhunting...joes forgotten..tallyho and all that..its murder trying to stop joe sliding off the horse in the dalek outfit and after new years eve martin has to ride side saddle..in fct i think im the only one who takes the thing seriously..brits are free third saturday in january unless liverpool are playing at home or unless we are off somewhere winning a war.
The 4 hour window was just another thought. I was worried about 13,000 (hopefully) signing on at the same time and crashing the system. I can see now how logistics plays such a large part in any endeavor. It might actually be more impressive if we narrow the window of opportunity.
Its beem done on other sites, and pretty successfully too. WTG, and Dukewayne are two that I was on when things like that happened ;-)) Im all for it here as well-but can't guarentee my haunted computer will allow me to participate-grrrr.
Heh heh, if I could afford to do so? i'd kick the darned thing down the hallway and hen toss it down the stairs. Lets see who comes out breathing? :-D
Heh heh, give it a swift kick in the butt while your at it-for me and for good measure. I'd kick the darn thing but, I just had recent surgery on both feet and they are still tender as heck and I couldn't stand the pains to follow. ;-))
C. Evans: I see you "can't guarantee my haunted computer". I was having all kinds of junk going on with my relic computer, (nearly 4 years old) and I replaced the 256mb memory thing with a 1GB ram card. ( I think that's what it's called) HP warned about loosing saved files or some such nonsense but I had nearly lost my mind and composure and gave it a go. The dumb thing went from "almost done" to finishing my sentences for me before I knew what I wanted to say.
It's getting close and I wanted to bump this to see if there was any interest for the 2nd of January. Oh, and Happy New Year !
Hi Biak, one thing I can guarentee you is that computers cause many headaches. Mine does to me all the time ;-)) I think im setteling in on gettinga new laptop. One of my Nephews is going to pick one out for me and I should be ona new computer hopefully by Summer.
