Found this for sale, what do you think is a fair price for it?

About $5.00...This looks cast and has very, very soft details. The catch is also all wrong.

Providing it was real-it would easily fetch about $800-$1,000. I've always wanted one of these myself even though I sold off most of my Luftwaffe stuff.

If you were lucky enough to find a documented original I think you'd be paying more like $2,000-$3,000....maybe even more....

Yeah, I just checked it out in person along with the iron cross. The guy wanted $500 for the retiree badge, and $150 for the cross. I passed on both

I'm pretty new to all this, but the cross struck me as off due to the black paint on the frame. It was multi piece construction, but there was black paint on the frame as well as the center, so it was either painted after being put together, or it was touched up. Also, the ribbon ring had no marker on it.

It is perfectly acceptable to find a non marked ring on almost ALL TR era awards.

I'd check out a few of the 'Larger' militaria forums, there are more dedicated sections and knowledgebale folks that you can read and learn from.

    www.wehrmacht-awards.com
    www.worldwarmilitaria.com
    www.germandaggers.com

There are numerous others but these are a good place to start.

    Good luck!;)

If they are being offered for less that $2,000.00...I'd be very cautious. These were only issued pre-war out of 800 silver or aluminum. There were more ferous badges made during the war but these were only made for replacement to an original...thus they can not be deemed 'wartime' awarded.

If you can get 'em for less than that...you have one leg up on the rest of the Luftwaffe badge collecting community!

These are scarce but not THAT scarce. I have seen a couple of them for sale over at Der Rittmeister-a site that is ONLY selling Imperial but to the owners disgust-he gets a few 3rd Recich items in with Imperial collections-and he sells that stuff off as quickly as possible. I have seen these on his site priced in the $800 USD range-and these are not fakes.

    Cheers-C.

I CAN get them for less than $2 grand-but im not THAT interested in getting one of these since I sold off most of my LW collection recently. All I have left are many photos, some RKT sigs, a LW Flak Arty badge and my mint Pilots Badge. Other than that, I no longer collect LW unless I can get something for a good deal. Theres too much stuff out there to collect-so im focusing about 95% of my attention to all things-Army.

BTW, im in the process of shedding most of my KM stuff too.

$2000's a good deal Carl. Anything less makes me suspicious. Unless i know the seller. Stewy

Hi Stewy, I imagine that that is the going rates for them now but, just two weeks ago, I saw one a dealer had at a gun and militaria show here in Austin-bad thing was, is that he wanted $4,000 for his-to which I coughed at ;-))
