I'd guess and say the top ones (or at least some of them) could possibly be lanyards for whistles, but US items most definitely isn't my area.
The "ropes" are more commonly known as Aguilletes (SP?) Adjutants Aguillettes (Again SP?) and Foreguerre (SP?) and is pronounced: four re jerre. US stuff aint my specialty either ;-))
They are called fourageres, the red and green one goes with the French War Cross Fourageres are individual or unit distinctions for French and foreign units. They are worn for parades and commemoration , a bit like the German ceremony tassels. What most people don' t know is that many Amercian deserved tis distinction and therefore American veteran sometimes brought these home. Here is a list : Fourragères
