Here are some pictures from my latest trip to Normandy! Great trip and great weather so a verry nice weekend! The first one is a picture from the guns at Longues sur mer.Verry impressive and still in good shape! The second one is the observation bunker at Longue sur mer. The third one are the big Skoda guns at Crisbeque wich hat a lot of bunkers and trenches. Next was a hole bunker complex at Azeville with a lot of underground trenches and bunkers.During d-day they even fired at their own bunkers at Crisbeque to attack the Americans over there. And the last one is a small overview from the American cemetery at Colleville sur mer. grtz melle!
Found some other pictures from a church in a small town nearby St-marie du Mont! Two American medics have taking care in that church over wounded civilians and other soldiers. You still can see the traces of blood on a wooden bench in the church.
Thanks to my new pc,(organising all my pictures)i also found this ones from a verry beautiful museum not far from Angoville au plain. It's cald "dead mans corner".The name from the museum is from the place where it's built, there was during de fights an American tank destroyer who was hit by de Germans hided in the hous where now the museum is.One American victim from the tank destroyer hung out of the turret for a few days, untill the house was cleared from the Germans. So the corner of the street was now called Dead man's corner by the Americans. The museum also had a great shop were you can by som original relics. Not verry cheap but if you are there why not?
great pics melle, i was there last april but the museum was closed, did you see the 88 at the side of the house (up to the back right) - painted in a nice camo
Awesome photos, thank you for sharing them. I had lunch at the small cafe right on the Douve River Bridge about a half mile down the road (toward Carantan) from "Dead Man's Corner" in 1994. This was before the house on the corner had been turned into a museum. We drove through St. Marie du Mont, and right past "Dead Man's Corner." I was familiar with the story from my D-Day readings. I was following our route on a map, when I suddenly realized we drove right through "Dead Man's Corner." Normandy has to be done on bicycle so you don't miss anything. Greg C.
Great photos, Melle, I've been to most of those places many times. Dead Mans Corner museum is is a fantastic, if a little small, museum, and I must agree with you about the high prices of some of the militaria on sale. A few years ago, I spent a good few hours climbing all over the Fire Control Bunker at Longues-sur-Mer...did you know that it featured in the classic movie The Longest Day?
Hey! I was over there about 3 years ago and there was no 88 at that time.the museum was then not compleet finisched!
I'm currently organising our next trip to Normandy in June this year...and hopefully another one before, in April.
I've often wondered what it would be like to visit sites like this. In one way I'm jealous, but I'm more thankful those of us in the US must travel so far to do so. Thank you for the pictures.
