I thought i would start a thread dedicated to many of the films that are not available on DVD: platoon leader the siege of fire base Gloria armored command escape to Athena the light-horsemen first to fight the tanks are coming breakthrough sea of sand world war III desperate journey china gate- Sam fuller. destination gobi pow the escape
Good list going there and here are a few of mine. 1) The Password Is Courage. 2) Ice Cold In Alex. 3) Dunkirk. 4) Kapo. 5) Both versions of: Der Teufels General. 6) Target Zero. 7) 08/15. Trilogy. 8) Col Redl. 9) No Time For Sergeants (Ok, not a war movie but Military-related) 10) Willie and Joe Up Front. 11) Willie and Joe, Back At the Front. There are others but cant think of them at this time. PS, I KNOW the UK titles are on DvD-but are on THEIR DvD system. I do Have Dunkirk but was recorder for me as well as Anzacs and The Lighthorsemen.
edge of darkness the thin red line-original the naked and the dead the glory brigade eight iron men china sky torpedo run
It's on DvD here as well. The only thing I really liked about that movie was the great cast-as well as a cameo by William Holden as a PoW. Sonny Bono--oh-NO.
Good list and, I had forgotten about the Flynn classic: Edge of Darkness. Also, The Glory Brigade-loved that one even though the N-Korean tank was a dressed up Sherman.
Just thought of another classic i'd love to see on American region DvD-which is a Sam Fuller classic about the Korean War-called: The Steel Helmet. And yet another I would love to see on DvD is: A Time To Love and A Time To Die. That one was written by Erich Maria Remarque-the man who wrote the classic: All Quiet On the Western Front. He even has a role in this film-Professor Pohl.
The Naked and the Dead is a fair movie at best. I didn't think it was all that good even though it had a great cast.
Ahhh, nice choics-Men of the Fighting lady. The Fighting Lady is now permanently moored at North Beach between Corpus Christi and Portland. I visited her a few times when nearby. More war movies to DvD wish list include: 55 Days At Peking. Yes, i know its out on DvD-but not released by an Ami company. A Time To Love and a Time To Die. Yes, imaware this too is on DvD and can also be played here but-its not released by a US company rather is released by some company in Korea-same as the above. Don't Go Near the Water. Advance To the Rear. Imitation general. The Last Command. The Last Grenade. Man From the Alamo. Northwest Passage. Oft mistaken as being released on DvD-which it has NOT been released-but the TV series IS on Dvd.
================================================== The last grenade and power play are coming to region1 DVD on Feb 23.
Hey Paul, thanks for this bit ;-)) I have not seen The Last Grenade since I was a kid and would love seing it again. I will be buying the DvD. I remember almost nothing about the movie except for a bit of one scene where a few soldiers were crossing a river-and that's it ;-)) Did you know that Darby's Rangers w/ James Garner and Jack Warden-was released ;-0) It;s a bit expensive for my buying tastes but, im geting that in Feb as well. PS tried to leave you more Rep but I still have to spread it around a bit. Forgot to add to the DvD wish list: The Savage-w/ Charlton Heston and Milburn Stone. Milburn Stone was Doc on Gunsmoke. He also was paired with heston in Arrowhead-as his Scout/Friend. Counterpoint-also with Heston and this time I think Maximilian Schell? This movie is a great one about a USO group who gets captured by the Germans (I THINK during the Battle of the Bulge) and forced toput on a show for them. All the while they were trying to hide two "real" GIs as saying these two were a part of their tour group-as performers. Its been ages since I last saw this masterpiece but Charlton Heston did an excellent job of acting (as is his norm) in this fine film.
The Last Blitzkrieg- Van Johnson plays an English speaking Nazi sent with a group of other Germans to infiltrate American lines. A Rumor of War.
I've never seen this movie but, I have an 8x10 B&W studio release photo fropm this movie. It shows Van Johnson in uniform-as well as Kerwin Mathews. Most of the uniforms are absolutely terrible to look at-coming from a collectors PoV.
