    Hi John

    Congrats on the CCC...:)

The bluing you see on these back plates is in fact a "fire blue" as is done heating the material to a certain temp. In the case of CCC's IMO it was purposely done.

    Best Regards, fischer

I know AGMuK CCC's had exotic/aqua blue back plates, something they're known for (i've got one;)). But JFS arn't known to have this,as far as i'm aware. It's definately a heat mark, but the blue back plates are very blue. Still a nice CCC though,i've seen these marks on JFS's before. Stewy

This blueing on metal, obviously from the heat in the production method, would help to ward off corosion, I would think, as well as making the item have a better "look" with a contrasting background. Maybe??

    regards John

I believe the blueing comes from the heating too , but as you say it makes it look better , so this method could have been encouraged by the maker for a nicer final result . I fully understand why you could get addicted to those , they are certainly well crafted

Sorry, but any "blue-ing" on JFS back plates was purely co-incidental. Due to heat transfer & not intended. AGMuK'S were the only CCC's that had the aqua blue B/Plate. Stewy

Hi folks one of the first PAB's i got. Didn't know at the time that it was as sought after as it is. Only due to the "Pi" makers mark on an otherwise unmarked F&R. Stewy

Ho-ly Crap............I have been tracking down and trying to find this ribbon for years, and by years I mean at least a decade. This ribbon was the subject of one of the first threads I posted to on this forum and at the time the concensus was that it was a VFW ribbon. It was the only ribbon of my dad's that I could not identify.

I know that there are others that have had the same mystery ribbon baffle them.

You have earned your first Salute!!!

    Brad

ps. I guess I should add that I identified this ribbon from the link you posted.

Not too sure Carl. Umarked F&R's are cheapish. But these "Pi" marked ones. Only five bronze & one silver are known to exist so far. My take on the m/mark is that they must've been sub-contracted out & whoever it was marked them with this mark. I've heard, but never seen that at least one other type of award has this m/mark. I believe it was an EK (EK1 most probably). Stewy

My WWII GI friend brought these back. He must have been involved in closing down the USRRA.
Tried to find info on this R and R program but it seems to be almost non-existent.
Apparently enlisted men were sent to Nice to relax - no officers. Officers were sent somewhere else. These signs came out of Nice.
