Do you get a court martial, before being sent to the cooler, or being dishonorably Discharged....my guilty conscience and all Why is it the cooler for some and a discharge for others?
In the Navy you can be sent to the brig via non-judicial punishment. The punishment sorta fits the crime, so we'd have to know what the deed was before we could say kind kind of punishment would be warranted.
Being sent to the "cooler" is a temporary ban from the forum (time frames vary?) "Dishonorably discharged" is to be permanently banned.
Hmmmm Currently there are 4 levels of punishment on this forum: Verbal encouragement from a Moderator or Administrator-" Hey knock it off". Formal Warning-Yellow Card these will appear as a "yellow flag " in the lower left corner of the offending post: http://www.ww2f.com/stump/31071-right-wing-extremism-rise-4.html#post381661 Cooler stint- 3 , 5 and 10 days depending on level of offense Coolertime will also result in the loss of 1 reputation point and the offending post will either be relegated to the Latrine or be anotated with a "red flag" in the lower left corner: http://www.ww2f.com/weapons-wwii/29480-british-rifle.html#post360125 Dishonorable Discharge- Thanks for playing have a nice life. Now there is no progressive discipline, such that you first offense is a warning, second is a yellow card etc. I have seen members who within a week of their arrival have been sent to the cooler for 5 days turn around and get sent right back in for 10. Generally there will not be a third trip to the cooler. Other people have joined and are immiediately shown the door due to their lack of maturity or propensity to incite hostility. Some just don't let things go and they are shown the door just as quickly. The lesson you should take away is that courtesy above all else is esential. Brad
I consult tea leaves and a Quiji board when handing out punishments. There are progressive penalties, but there are also infractions that will get a member thrown out immediately, such coming in here saying that the Jews had it coming. Also, Holocaust denial will get your summarily removed. Most of the Dishonorable Discharges you see are spam bots who have been banished and not actual people. We had a big run of them last Autumn, until we blocked all registrations from IP addresses in Vietnam. I generally talk to members first and if that has no effect, then the cooler is used. One of the best ways for a member to get DDed is to get snotty with a moderator, any moderator, when we address them formally or informally about poor behavior. If we take the time to talk to a member informally, it usually because we think the member is worth the effort.
humm I always wondered what the cooler was ... thanks opana for bringing it up and thanks for the explanation brad and slip .. learn something new everyday Suzie
Hi Jeff, a slight correction one one of your words. Its actually: Oui-Ja-which means Yes in both French and German ;-)) Does this mean I get 5 days???
The Cooler is a very tame form of punishment. In general it means that something minor was done (not serious enough to warrant being kicked), and we have reason to believe the member can easily correct their issue. It consists of the removal of a members posting ability. You can read threads and visit anywhere on the site without restriction, but not post. A Dishonorable Discharge will not let the user see anything at all.
I am free to give tarot readings to any members....In the urqh way of course...this with Jeffs Ouija board and tea leaves should stop anyone having to visit cooler...as we can tell them just what posts they are going to post in future will infringe. I do though have the habit of pulling out the grim reaper on occasions...Its not a bad thing...just looks like Formerjughead and apparantly is a US marine of sorts. We get yellow flags???? Is there a running total anywhere? Does the member get the option to run out a white flag....In form of apology and move on....Without having to explain...
There is a little area on the "User CP", sandwiched between "subscribed user social groups" and "Latest reputation received", titled "Latest infractions received". Just as it's name implies that area keeps a tally of all your infractions from warnings to time spent in the cooler to number of points lost due to infractions and a link to the offending post, unless it has been relegated to the "latrine". The bright spot about infractions and cooler time is the "Private Message" you receive informing you of the infraction/warning, it has the ominous subject line : "You have received a warning (or infraction) at WW2F". Something to look forward to when you are in a heated debate and think you may have crossed the line. Of course you can not reply to it if you are in the cooler, good Lord that is aggrevating. There is also an area towards the bottom of the home page: "Top 10 Stats" with a drop down menu and an option for "Infractions" that has a tally of all infractions. Brad
It looks like RAM at #185 with 3 trips to the cooler and 3 penalty points I am at #190 after "Black February" of 2009 two trips in as many weeks during my first month on the Forum. Fortunately I have a pretty good Parole Officer. I wonder if I can get some of those points expsponged?
Seems that I don't have that "latest infraction received" feature. I guess that you have to be an alumni of the "royal oder of the cooler" (ROTC!) to obtain such access.
Brad - It does seem that you know more about the WW2f Penal Code and Penal System than most Rogues. You must be like a trustee now. ;-)
I had forgotten about that. The Cooler, it does a body good. I've seen the insides of such an establishment myself, over across the way in LimeyLand, WW2Talk, a year or so back. It was for the good, though. You see I still hang out over there and am good friends with the ones who put me there. I suspect most would be surprised at who has and has not seen cooler time.
