Thanx for sharing the article. Brave and truly a man who loved his country. R.I.P. Witold.

It is really sad to see he survived the horrors of the WW2 just to end being killed by his own communist country men....

When he meet his wife just before the sentence he said that the Auschwitz was only a child game and the real horror was in communist hands.

We (my wife many friends and me)traveled to Varsow and Krakow in summer 2005 (as tourist). I don't remember to have seen any Witold Pilecki's memorial in Auschwitz. WHY NOT!!!! ????

May be a language problem (I'm not native english speaker) but I remember about Maximilian Kolbe so I should have herad any thing about this man.

Maximilian Kolbe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and about Józef Piłsudski http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%B3zef_Pi%C5%82sudski

There were no bird in Auschwitz, I didn't heard any one near. It wasn´t normal. Was it?

I live nearby Auschwitz and in fact there is no birds here but i never think about it.
Witold is kind of forgoted heroes and even small group of polish citizens heard about him. The Russian and Communist propaganda ( in 45 years) is responsible for it. But in time he will have his glory.
And he didint die in Auschwitz.

I saw in Tv (Histroy Chanel, Lost worlds) It´s the same in Vlad Dracul casttle.
So I guess it was a fake recall, till your post.

    “The Horror’s smell.”

Probably it's pesticides. I've no idea in east wildlife, but "near" in the so pretty Krakow I saw birds.
