Controversy hits after white supremacists join the Adopt-A-Highway program. Not sure what to say about it kind of weird never thought the nazi party would be allowed to adopt a highway.

Arg it's a video and I can't listen to it at the moment!

It isn't exactly the "Nazi Party", or any "Party" for that matter, just a bunch of idiots getting together thinking they know how things were better than those who lived through it.

    What is the road called?

Oh, so these neo Nazis adopted a highway... Yeah, well, I'm familiar with the adopt-a-highway program, but why they would do it? Well, let's think, they could have done it for publicity. Yeah that's it, they aren't sincere about the actual road upkeep, now are they? All these idiots want is to just show themselves to the world, and to convey the perception that Nazism is not dead.

Maybe it's a throwback to the AUTOBAHN, something always associated with the Nazi period....

The modern German government has done it's level best to remove as many remains from the period to avoid having something for later generations to rally around. Maybe this road was originally built by the regime in the thirties, and some bright spark in the neo movement has cottoned onto a way of lionizing something that still exists from the period. Lets face it, there are not to many of the old sites left, so imaginative stunts like this one will more than make up for the lack of monuments, graves of the leaders etc.

We have a thread going about Micheal Wittman at the moment that proves that hero worshipping old Nazi propaganda heros is certainly not dead, even from forum posters who profess to hating the regime and all it stands for...

No offense intended, BTW. If you wish to put old German war heros up on a modern cenotaph, go ahead....but it's certainly not my personal cup of tea flowing over....

It's a way to get their name in the public eye.

    This has happened before.
Or is this the same group & stretch of road from a while back?
I'd be unsurprised at the re-hashing of an old story.

Why not..Royalists have coronation street, Communists red square, builders have brick lane...Liberels have sheep street...Hat makers have balaclava avenue. Turring has a roundabout in Manchester...So why not Goering heights..Could build it on entry road to RAF museum in Hendon. Or Goebells entry..Mersey tunnel mouth.....Hitler park instead of Goodison park where everton play..both only ever had one ball I believe...Im all for it...

The adopt a highway program has had a couple of questionable groups use it in the past. The most famous is the KKK, or at least the one I recall from the 90s the best. Here is an article from Snopes about them and the Rosa Parks Highway. Pretty bizarre, and not only does the group get a sign with their name on it, they also qualify for Federal Funds for cleaning their section.

    See:

snopes.com: Rosa Parks Highway and KKK

This new group might be going for the same reasons, publicity and federal funds as well.

Back in 2005 another neo-Nazi group the "American Nazi Party" put up two "Adopt-A-Highway" signs near Salem in Marion County, south of Portland. The signs, which cost taxpayers $250 each, say: "American Nazi Party." This "honor" was not revoked exactly, or at least not until they failed to keep picking up the trash as per the agreement.

The U.S. Supreme Court, ruling in early January of 2005 held in the KKK Missouri case, that free speech rights prevent states from barring such groups as the Ku Klux Klan from participating in "Adopt-A-Highway" programs. The KKK had been banned from the program originally in the 90’s, but took the case all the way to the Supreme Court, where they won. The KKK eventually lost their "signs" as well, also by not picking up the trash as they had promised to do.

This latest neo-Nazi group is just the most recent episode.

    OOPs!

Neo Nazi's in AMERICA....sorry bout that.

Publicity seeking bums. Anything to get their name on signs or in the media. Why on Earth do they bother? Hasn't anyone told these retards that WW2 was an Allied victory, that Hitler, goring and Goebbels are long dead with no grave, and who gives a flying @#$% about nn's anyway!

My comment here almost beats a certain poster defensively describing the Bismark as "The best battleship in the Pacific"

Maybe we should have a alternative to saluting, an "Uh-oh!" button of some kind, where posters can ridicule obvious gaffs like mine and this one with a suitable icon....moderators only!

Do you actually think these people care about who won the war or the people who died in it? They are simply "riding the wave" and using a symbol/ideology to get some recognition.
