Quite a list you have there. You can start looking up there enlistment records online. Which will give you clues and hopefully create some leads. NARA - AAD - Fielded Search - Electronic Army Serial Number Merged File, ca. 1938 - 1946 (Enlistment Records) Are any of these men related in someway? Friends?
Hi there thanks for your help, sadly these soldiers are no relations, I am just trying to find out about a signed German flag that I bought years and years ago but just did not have the time, these names and addresses have been printed onto the flag each in different hand writing, I would like to find out whatever I can about the soldiers, I have tried quite a few names on the link given withought any joy, I will keep trying, should you think of anything else please email me, It would be very much appreciated. Best regards from Scotland Davy
I remember reading some of your threads about that topic. Very interesting story. I have some free time this weekend so I'll take a look. Do you happen to have any pictures or more information?

Davy, This has the making of an interesting and not impossible project. Just thinking out loud here, but it seems that if they all signed the flag they would be from the same unit. If you could learn the unit from one name you could begin doing some serious research from there. Since you have the addresses, you may be able to join one of the genealogy sites and see if you can't locate the family of one of the more promising names. I was successful doing this finding a shipmate of my brother. All I had was his name and the town he was from and was able to locate a daughter (sadly the veteran passed two years ago). I'll poke around and see if I can't scare something up. Would make the flag so much more meaningful. Dave
Douglas Bently Appears on this list of death notices for New Orleans in 1997 http://www.jgs25.com/obits/d0697a-f.htm RH HOCHHAUS is mentioned in an article on this link (via Google search); but, I can't seem to find the article:
Hi Clark thank you very much for the time you have taken looking up information, this is really great, I will tell you all I know about the flag and hopefully attach photos, the flag came to me with a letter from one of the named soldiers Leo Boornazian 1815 S Fairway Fresno CA93727 Leo was contacted by letter in 1989 by another collector here is what he is what was asked and the reply Dear Sir I am a collector of World War 11 items. and I recently acquired a German flag that has your signature and address on it. it also is signed by 30 other American soldiers, perhaps you remember the flag and signing it; perhaps you remember your comrades who signed the flag with you ? I am extremely intertested in knowing more about the flag; it is a piece of history that I find facinating, I would like to know more about the people who signed the flag, and the military unit that liberated it, was the flag taken from SS or SA headquarters? Do you remember the town from which it was liberated ? Do you remember if it was the town of Partenstein ? Will you please help me discover the truth about this flag ? If you would like to contact me ++++++++++++++++++++++++ here is the reply by Leo Boornazian Dear Andrew Dec 5 -89 Nice tohear from you about the flag, I really cannot remember signing as it has been along time The group who signed the flag as I recall were from HG Co 3rd Bt 393 rd infantry as to where we got the flag I am not certain, but I believe it was from the town or village of either Elsaubour or krichalt belguim I am certain the boys who signed the flag were from Hg Co 3rd Bat 393 rd infantry Regiment, Enclosed is a picture of myself. Your truly Leo boornazian ===================== I really can`t quite make out the towns in the letter, I have put down what I think it says, any help would be good on the town names.
Hi there can I please thanks everyone who has taken time to help with finding out about this flag, I really appreciate all the time and effort that has been given, I have added photos of flag and the town names which I can`t really make out, if you have time to take a look at the photos and give me your opinion that would be great, I have never been involved with looking up soldiers names, can you please explain how I can access the NARA system. ? Thanks Guys Davy
Hi there I had proplems attaching photos, they are listed under three sets in new posts HELP WITH NAMES TO THERE WAR TIME UNITS AND RANK WWII GENERAL
Hi here are a few photos of the letter, a few close up shots of the names of the towns in Belguim - if you can make out the names that would be a great help. Thanks to all
Thanks for the photos they are very helpful. The two towns mentioned in the letter Krinkelt and possibly Elsenborn. Both are near each other and the 99th Infantry 393rd Infantry regiment were at both towns during the war. Looks like the 393rd Infantry Division was a medical detachment, which would make sense because when I was looking through the NARA records a few records had medical written in one of the columns. Here is more information: I also found this on the 99th Infantry division website, "Stanley Caplan, HQ Co., 3rd Bn., 393rd Inf., would like to hear from Frank J. D'Andrea or anyone who remembered him. D'Andrea was in the same outfit as Caplan. E-mail Caplan at addiebell935 at cs.com." Even though his name isn't on the flag maybe he would know some of the people from HQ Co. I also found some more information on the priest, he has passed away and his name was mentioned in the The Jesuits and the Third Reich book. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/f...S&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSob=n&GRid=23023820& I'll look some more tonight.
