Hi Clark thank you very much, Man you know your stuff I really am in your dept, I wll send a email to Caplan and hope he can remember some of the soldiers of 393rd. I will post any reply. I was thinking that the flag may have been signed after the war at a reunuion, but looking at the different parts of the USA and having one British name does not really add up, any thoughts on this ? Thanks Again Clark Best Regards Davy
Here's a barebones look at the 393rd Infantry Regiment: 393rd Infantry Regiment - World War II History (LoneSentry.com) This site contains some after action reports that refer to the 393rd as a medical unit. The links are about 2/3 of the way down the page. Office of Medical History
Hi just had a email from someone who new ROBERT V HOGAN Hi Davy, I knew Bob Hogan from Chicago. We went on a few trips with him back to the battlefields. He was a lawyer here in Chicago, Nice guy! ============================================= I do know that Bob Hogan was with the 3rd bat. 393rd Inf. The 393rd ,3rd Batt. Was a regular infantry regiment. They were in a huge firefight in the woods at a place called Rath Hill, near a corduroy road right at the front when the bulge occurred! A medal of honor was won there by a man named Vernon Mcgarity. ===================================================== There might be a link to most of the soldiers named being part of the 393rd ,3rd Batt which would make sense that the flag was signed during the the war, Hi Clark I tried emailing Stanley Caplan but there is a problem with the email address, emails bounced back, I tried looking for the link on the 99th Infantry division website but just can`t find it, if possible could you please point me to it Clark. Hope to here from you. Regards Davy
Hi Dave, the website doesn't give me a full URL to give to you so I'll just show you how to find the posting on the 99th ID website. CHECKERBOARD | 99th Infantry Division Association | Fall 2009 Click on "More" on the left and then in the search column put this "addiebell93" without quotation marks. Then on the left click "Go" under the Expand search through December 2001 bullet. Click on 2003 on the left then click on the Frank D'Andrea bullet and the posting will come up. Nice to hear that someone replied with information here is the Medal of honor citation for Vernon. Once I get some more time this week I'll look for more information on those names. http://www.homeofheroes.com/moh/citations_living/ii_a_mcgarity.html
Hi Clark good information on the 99th web site, will spend some time there over the next few days, I have found that Bob Hogan was the legal adviser for the 99th Inf and retired from the position around 2007, according to the site he to was part of the 99th Infantry Division + 3rd bat. 393rd Inf
Hi Guys came up with this information I think this is one of the soldiers and his son, Nepi acquires rare Lauer photos on eBay Associate member Mike Nepi of Lorton VA, sent copies of these photos of MG. Lauer taken at Camp Maxey in 1943. He bought the original photos on eBay for $20 each. He plans to add the originals to a 99th memorabilia collage he created for his father, Peter Nepi, who was a former communications staff sergeant. Mike says his parents now live in Sarasota FL, and enjoy good health. They are planning cruises to Italy and Alaska this summer.
