All, I am looking to try and identify the German Panzer Division near, at, or defending at the Kustrin Bridgehead in Apr 1945. Thanks for all the help in advance.
Could be the 25th Panzer Grenadiers. See this site. http://www.battlevault.com/Events/W...r List_files/German/Charles_McKellar_Hist.pdf
Lou generally a Pz Gren Division does not have a strong armored component - Stugs in most cases and occassion the Pz. IV, re. I put the Munch. division
Thanks for the info, Erich. I'm not real up on military units and their components, especially German ones. However, that link came up when I began searching for anything at the Kustrin Bridgehead. I'll bow to your knowledge.
Absolutely Erich, by that stage "Panzer Division" was an extremely loose term!! Where there any Heavy Tank Units deployed around Kustrin, I'm pretty sure there were some SS in the mix there also.
SS Heavy Panzer Battalion 102 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I think this is the one I was referring to. Will Fey in his book "Armored Battles of the Waffen SS" mentions this unit as taking part in the attack to relieve Kustrin and also was involved in the Battle of the Seelow Heights. They were destroyed in the Halbe Pocket
Whichever unit it was will be mentioned in the Tony LeTissier book The Siege Of Kustrin 1945.... The Siege of Kustrin 1945: Gateway to Berlin: Amazon.co.uk: Tony Le Tissier: Books as well as the excellent book Bloody Streets by Stephan Hamilton... Kevin, I think you may find something useful at feldgrau.net--this isn't a plug for the website; you need to register too!!)
Thanks Dr George. I am registered with the feldgrau website. They do not go much into detail with some units. But thanks for the help.
