    Dear Sirs,

I am researching the following two individuals:

Sgt. A. J. "Red" OWEN (pilot) and Sgt. J. S. V. MCALLISTER, (observer) both of No. 600 Sqn RAF (Beaufighters).

I am particularly interested in their activities on the 21-22 December 1942 as they may have shot down a German aircraft in the mediterranean just prior to dawn and I would like details of this. Might it be in their DFM or DFC citation ?

Any information regarding their actions at this time would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ardvark

Unfortunately the citation does not shed any light on their activities of 21/22 December 1943:

Sgt A.J. Owen and Sgt. J.S.V McAllister, both of No. 600 Squadron - As Pilot and Observer of aircraft respectively these airmen have displayed great skill. They have destroyed three enemy aircraft at night.

A history of No. 600 Squadron makes no mention of a DFC:

    squadron | f/l | w/c | 1949 | 1828 | Flight Archive

However, page 520 of "Arnold Scheme: British Pilots, the American South and the Allies Daring Plan" by Gilbert S. Guinn states:

[SIZE=-1]Flight Lieutenant JSV McAllister, BA, PhD, OBE, DFC, DFM, was demobilized in
June 1946, married and subsequently was appointed to the faculty of agriculture for Northern Ireland

No citation for a DFC found but in 1945 they are both commissioned, DFC-gonged and have been flying ops on No 85 Squadron:

Unfortunately my father Wing Commander AJ Owen AFC DFC DFM died on 13th February 2010.

If you could let me know why you are researching him and his navigator I
might be able to obtain the information that you require.

    TJO
