I saw this film recently Ray. Not a bad movie at all. I like the how the director was able to get in a jab at people who were in service and not taking it seriously. Like the scene on the train where the sub captain is in a box car with a Canadian soldier who is complaining about the military (fuzzy memory on this part) I think he is killed and the German takes his uniform. Suspenseful movie if your looking for something different on the war this is a good one to watch.
Definitely meant to have North American's having the realization that war wasn't necessarily "over there." I did a look here 49th Parallel (1941) the list of performers in it is amazing: Eric Portman, Laurence Olivier (as Johnny the Trapper!), Glynnis Johns, Leslie Howard...
One of the few films that mentions Canada...there's another about the German pilot that escapes back to Germany from Canada..One that got away??
here's a pretty good list of war films, 1939 upto present, not complete! but interesting films that may have passed you bye.. List of World War II films - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
