Convicted Holocaust denier Zundel released - Yahoo! News Far-right German activist Ernst Zundel was freed after serving five years in prison for denying the Holocaust ever happened — something he wouldn't speak about Monday. The 70-year-old had been extradited in 2005 from Canada, where he spent some additional time behind bars on the German warrant after having been deported from the United States for alleged immigration violations. A crowd of 20 supporters on Monday morning clapped and shouted "bravo" as Zundel emerged from the prison in Mannheim. Some handed him flowers as he passed through the prison's steel gates. "I'm back out after seven years, three weeks, three prisons and three countries," Zundel said, declining to comment when asked whether the Holocaust happened. He also served some time in prison in North America. "It's kind of a sad situation; there's a lot to say. I'll certainly be careful not to offend anyone and their draconian laws." Zundel was convicted on 14 counts of inciting hatred for years of anti-Semitic activities, including contributing to a Web site devoted to denying the Holocaust — a crime in Germany. The Web site's accessibility made it possible for German prosecutors to charge him.

How can 'they' deny it? with all the evidence still out there today, photos, videos etc etc.. They should hang those who deny it.
Unfortunately some Arrogantly can't except the truth on what their country men did during War II, Just like the Japanese claim that many of the atrocities they committed are exaggerated or not fact, they only see what suits them nor have they come close to apologizing. You can lead an A$$ or Mule to water but it doesn't mean they'll drink. This is a Hate crime, and to Deny it means you have a few loose bolts in the head. He did his time the Law states the Trash must be realised, It would also be unjustified to keep him in jail for life because of his beliefs! Very true. I once argued with a poster on another forum who stated it may have happened but only 250,000-500,000 Jews were murdered versus the historical 6,000,000. I asked him just what does it matter if the death toll was 250,000? or 500,000? or 6,000,000? or even 10,000,000? one is just as bad as the other . What does it matter if one country has one death camp or several dozen? The only thing that matters is it happened on a large scale whichever figures you want to use and was sanctioned from above.

The term "holocaust denyer" is misleading. Who ca be so stupid and maintain that this terrible massmurder never happened! By German and Austrian law a holocaust denyer is a person who is doubtful about the number of jewish victims (6 to 7 million poeple) and maintains the number must have been much smaller. In both countries it is illegal to talk in such way. Sorry about my English, I am from Austria.
Unfortunatly it's not just Germans who refuse to accept the truth. There are Holocaust deniers in the US too. I'm not convinced that making it a crime much less a "hate crime" is a good idea. That tends to drive it undergroung. I'd much rather they be allowed to speak in public and recieve the redcule they deserve. Laughter and scorn are often far worse punishment to that ilk than jail and fines.
