£150,000 according to some! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8566970.stm http://blog.afghanheroes.org.uk/2010/03/15/mothers-day-ride-thank-you-all/ Fantastic day! The weather was beautiful and a very emotional day!15,000 Bikers!! For me three real 'Highspots', en route to WB we passed through several villages, going through one, we passed an old peoples home, they were all wrapped up well in blankets and coats, waving flags like mad! One old lady was shouting encouragement to us, so loud, I could hear her over my engine! In WB, a lady stood alone with a huge placard, A soldier's name on it, a date & RIP. Under that in huge letters, 'THANK YOU BIKERS'. I guess that was her son and if we made her feel that bit better, I'm glad we did it!! Finally, as we were leaving WB, an ex Para in his beret, slapping as many bikers on the back as he could, clapping his hands and saying thank you! I know some people were put off by the scale of the event and 3.5 hours of waiting around was a pain but the locals turned out in their thousands!! We raised a heap of cash as well. RTTW was special but this was in another league! A truly memorable day. If you weren't there, you missed something special! As the Meatloaf song goes 'Not a dry eye in the house'!!
My tip of the hat is directed personally to you My Friend. The post was interesting but your actions exemplary.
According to the local paper, the Police reckon 22,000 bikers took part!! 22,000 took part in event, say police (From Swindon Advertiser)
It was! The bike forums are still buzzing! A journalist from one of our Daily papers, The Daily Mirror, posted a sneering piece about the event yesterday morning. (Typical!! ) The Mirror site got hammered hollow, by the middle of the afternoon, he'd posted an apology! Journalists and politicans, both think they know the answers and have their finger on the public pulse........................yeah, right!!
Hilts,it was great event you took part in and as one who has biker mates I know how much they do for causes such as this, I have seen them all ride into Chepstow on the Hog The Bridge ride but as you said this was something special well done mate!
