Hi Gary. Welcome to the forum. Browse around. There's plenty of information.

What can you tell us of your grandfather's service? What unit was he with? Other notable action besides El Alamein?

    Hello
Funny you mention that cause I do .
I was told a story by my Dad about my granddad.
My grandad was patrolling with his unit when he came across a leather bound photo album. He approached it carefully cause he was scared he was booby trapped. well the good news it was not so he kept it as a memento.

This photo album has pictures of German solders and other interesting pics.
My granddad also added pics of members of his unit( south african) etc etc.

The good news is my dad still has it and He is going to send it to me only problem is He is in South Africa and I am in New Zealand.
I will hopefully get it soon.

I have also just added some pics of a pillbox close to my house in NZ

    Enjoy.:flag_nz:

Hello Not much ,I know he was in the South African 1st Infantry Division and that he was captured at el Alamein but that is about it I would love to find out more.
The only problem is my Granddad never talked about it

    Nay mate,

Do not be so upset about him.

How would you feel to shoot a man in cold blood, with his blood all over your clothes mixing with the blood of your mates and perhaps yourself?

How would you like to kill a person, whose name you know not, whose sins you know not, just because he wears another uniform under the guide of a fanatic?

How would you like to do the things you hate to do, But you have to do it?

Think twice mate, for you surely do not want to be in a feild where people kill each other without knowing their names...

    Regards,
    TBA

PS: can your dad send a scanned copy / photos of them to you via mail?

    Regards,
    TBA
