Correct name of the unit is 112th Engineer Combat Battalion. Search that name and you can find much on them. I'm not understanding what you are saying here: Was he a medic or was he helping a medic? Please clarify The 112th Engineers did land on Utah Beach 6 June 1944. They were not part of the 4th Infantry Division, divisions did not have engineer components that large. The battalion was most likely attached to VII Corps for the landing. Corps have command of divisions and many smaller, non-divisional units. It is possible that the 4th ID had temporary command of parts of the battalion during the initial assault phase. I can provide very general dates and locations if you want them and the campaigns the 112th was credited with. I used to work with a surgeon who was in this battalion as a company commander. He was not a physician at the time. He died several years ago. As far as what patch, that would be a guess on my part at best. I don't know if the 112th had their own authorized patch back then Here is what they wear now: 112th Engineer Battalion (HVY DIV)
