hello is it possible to find out the name of a wing commander who was at raf kirkham[crossed out is warton] in 1947. i have my grandads demob book and i was hoping it would help me find his squadron. the wing commander signed his release papers his signature is not that clear but it looks like it spells glacvetts or glaepetts but its just a wild guess all offers welcome thanks janine
From 25 Jan 1946 - 6 Aug 1953 61 Squadron was based there: Stations-W If you could scan the document and post it someone may be able to assist deciphering the signature. As I was posting this Waddington disappeared and Kirkham appeared. No idea what was going on at RAF Kirkham in 1947. Most sites say it was used as a demobilising centre until December 1945: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Kirkham#History https://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/mid/sites/breconbeacons/pages/frankstokes.shtml
i was told he did repatriation of italy supplies/prisoners he also served a some point as a warrant officer
The ferrying home of troops from Italy was known as "Operation Dodge" which seems to have ended by December of 1945, not sure about supplies. If you go here you or another relative can apply for his service records from the RAF: http://www.ww2f.com/military-servic...arch/36895-requesting-uk-service-records.html
hi i have contacted raf sites and they have confirmed his unit of 6pru/27 group 55 existed they do not know what it was. would i still find details of his service on his records or does this mean they are missing
