Here is a tunic for a Reichskriegsgerichtsoberinspektor (Hauptmann). This tunic is heavily worn with a few field repairs. For this reason, I feel that the owner of this tunic most likely wore it as a POW. The cloth is high quality and not for field use. The only reason it would be subjected to heavy and prolonged use would be due to nessecity. The nebenfarbe looks red, until compared with bright red(flak) and wine red(TSD Judicial) shoulder boards. Then it is clear to see that this tunic is for a military justice(courtsmartial) official.
Here are some T&S insignia for a couple sets of non published NCO level Justice officials. These sets come complete with the packet, tag, and tabs. 1. Justizwachtmeister 2. Oberjustizwachtmeister 3. Oberjustizwachtmeister single board, used
Here are some wine red tabs, which are also associated for the Judicial Official. It is unknown to me if these were used for a period of time, to be replaced later by the standard green colored tabs or did they represent a certain type of Justice Official, such as an actual judge. I feel that my intial theory is the most possible, as I have never seen a Justice Tunic with the wine red tabs. 1. Reichskriegsgerichtsinspektor(Oberleutant) 2. Reichskriegsgerichtsoberinspektor(Hauptmann) 3. Reichskriegsgerichtsrat(Oberstleutnant) 4. Justizsonderfuhrer(only one I have ever seen). You will notice that some of the outer cords on the collar tabs are different. These represent the education level of the wearer. This applies to all LW Admin specialists and sonderfuhrer. No piping around an official's tabs means that the specialist has maybe a highschool education, but has very unique skills needed by the luftwaffe. He will never go beyond an NCO level. The broken silver and green(or before 1939, blue-gray) cord around the tabs mean that the person has a specialized technical school under his belt. Most of these guys are NCO only, but there are officer grades in the Air Traffic Controllers, Fire Dept, and GFP. The silver outer piping is the most common. That means the wearer has advanced technical training, such as maybe a paralegal specialist. The gold outer piping means that the wearer has a graduate (or higher) degree. A doctor, attorney, or other such person would fall into this area. Thanks Erich. Those tags and envelopes are the only reason I know that the green NCO tabs are for. They are completely non published and are unlike any I have seen in the past. Very unique to this specialty, I would think.
Due to manpower shortages in the Luftwaffe Officer Corps, in Novemeber of 1944, the Luftwaffe authorized certain specialties within the Luftwaffe Officials to become a part of the Regular Luftwaffe(soldier status). This granted higher benefits than being an official. The allowed specialties formed the TSD Administrative and TSD Judicial specialties. The men who wore the above insignia were offered the chance to become members of the regular Luftwaffe. Those who volunteered and were accepted(medical requirements were more stringent for the regular Luftwaffe members)into the TSD Judicial Branch switched out their insignia for the type below. You will notice that the tabs utilized the regular Luftwaffe gulls and one layered boards. The tabs are for a Judicial Oberst and the board is for a Judicial Major. The underlay on the board is a tailors modification of a sew in type board into a slide in type. The Roman Short Sword cypher was to be used on the shoulder boards.
