I have a number of movies I have watched over and over, not constantly or anything but when they are shown again on TV, have them in my own library, or if they are available on something like Netflix Instant Viewing I’m checking them out. These include (but are not limited to), in no particular order: Comedy: Modern Times The General The Great Dictator A Night At The Opera You Can't Cheat an Honest Man The Bank Dick Adam’s Rib Father Goose Westerns: Once Upon a Time in The West The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance The Outlaw Josey Wales Open Range The Shootist The Cowboys Action: Rocky I & II Rambo (only the first) Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (filmed in my hometown of Hobson) Telefon Death Wish (most sequels as well) Raiders of The Lost Ark (and sequels)
Hey Clint, I know this is off subject a great bit but, I found a dealer who has 2-3 great Studio Release Shots of: Woody Strode (along w/ Gregory Peck) in: Pork Chop Hill. I am interested in getting these buyt have not yet heard back from the seller on them. One is a bunker scene-maybe two are? and one is a Trench scene.
Hi Carl, sounds good. I got a trivia bit for ya on Woody. In Once Upon a Time In The West, in the opening scene where he and Elam are waiting on the train to arrive with Charles Bronson on it, did you know that the Indian gal that runs away from the station into the distance is Woody's wife? I believe it was her only appearance with Woody, and both had brief bit parts really. Just interesting is all.
Comedy: Some Like it Hot Mister Roberts Grumpy Old Men The Front Page The Full Monty Crime: All the 'Dirty Harry's' Brannigan - Great London Locations The Untouchables The Godfather North by North West Bonnie & Clyde Sci-Fi E.T. Star Wars - The first ones........... Westerns: The Searchers Shenandoah The Man who Shot Liberty Valance The Red Badge of Courage Gettysburg Gods and Generals The Outlaw Josey Wales
Comedy: The Producers (1968) SciFi: The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original Michael Rennie version) Fantasy: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Hi Lou, I love that Rennie movie too and got it along with a few other Sci-Fi classics when WalMart had a hugh Sci-Fi display going on about 1 1/2 years ago. I picked up Earth vs The Flying Saucers and It Came From Beneath the Sea, 3 Three Stooges movies and Two Star Trek Movies at the same time. That was a great haul ;-)) Recently I did a scaled down version of this when I picked up another Ray Harryhausen movie and two Sword and Sandal movies: Spartacus and 300 Spartans-to be exact ;-))
Hi, Carl. Spartacus is a definite keeper. Is 300 Spartans an older film? I think I saw it a long time ago. I've taken your advice about searching the Walmart $5.00 bin. I recently picked up a 2 disk set of Victory at Sea for $5.00. I'm enjoying watching them. I used to watch it on TV when I was a kid.
Hi Clint, thats cool about Woody and his Wife. I dont remember much about that movie as I saw it only once but will give it another chance next time its aired. Oh and, I found at least three with Woody in PCH alongside eck. One is as they are still charging up the hill at night and is just as Peck is forcing Strode to continue uphill. Another shows them in the bunker just after the Chinese stopped attacking it and the other shows Woody in one of the trenches and Peck is ordering him to stay while the wounded man is helped down the hill by another soldier. These stills are some great shots and im hoping to get word that they are mine. If not? I know where I can get some good Kirk Douglas and Woody Strode stills-which show them fighting in that Gladiator rink in: Spartacus.
Hi Lou, I agree on Spartacus, I love that movie. 300 Spartans is an older film-I think was made in the early 1960s? and its main star is Richard Egan as King Leonidas. I first saw this movie around 15-20 years ago and for some reason I had been dissappointed in it. However, I saw it a year or two ago and loved it then and when I saw it again lasst week (ala) DvD, I liked it even more. I think this one is for sale at WM for $6 bucks as is Spartacus. Ive seen the Victory AT Sea DvDs for sale but never picked them up--yet. I always find something else that takes my money ;-)) I enjoyed that Doc series too and will get it eventually-along with World At War and Battleline. Recently Wm has been selling some great older classics and im trying to get them all. When I bought Spartacus and 300 Spartans, I bought a movie with Ray Harrryhausen SF in it-I forgot its title but is one I always wanted. Today I got Mysterious Island with Ray Harryhausen SF. I wish they would release The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad-and other Ray Harryhausen projects. Ive been kicking myself for not buying a copy of: Clash of the Titans when I had the chance. Next time I went in I didnt have eniough, and today when I decided to finally get it-they were either sold out or are no longer carrying it. Im going back tomorrow and see what this weeks newest movies are? Oh and if your a fan of Lon Chaney? (I am) WM has The Wolfman in the $7.50 bin. I was going to buy that one today but-didnt have enough with me to get it. Ill be getting a copy of it my Saturday tough ;-))
