I'm trying to write a story and i was looking for an actual transcript of the broadcast that people would have been listening to at that time. My hope is that it will add realism and also help me understand better the background and mentality of the characters

I was hoping to get a transcript of what people who were listening to the radio in April 1942, before the surrender of Bataan would have actually have heard on the news. I thought having the actual text would add realism to the text, and being able to read it or listen to it would help me get a better handle on what the characters are thinking.

Check this site. It has a news broadcast from April 20, 1942 (as well as many others), that leads off with Corregidor. Be sure to have RealPlayer installed to listen to them. Hope this helps.

You might have some luck at this site, they have both the actuall broadcasts and (I believe) the ability to send you "transcripts" of them.

    Goto:

    The Authentic History Center

I've never looked for anything other that the actual broadcasts, and listened to them.

Here is another site which does sell items like what you are looking for.

    Goto:

EarthStation1.com - The WWII Sounds & Pictures Page - Wavs, Sounds & Pictures of the Second World War

And this site has a collection of URLs, some with audio, some just print.

    Goto:

    World War II - UEN

I think the one with the Library of Congress collection of "Main Street USA" is in there somewhere.

If not, go here and start browsing around in their collection.

    Goto:

    http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/afcphhtml/afcphhome.html

Here is another I forgot to include!

    Goto:

    http://www.archive.org/

    Good luck!
