Hi everyone! My name is Jolene and I live in the UK. Even though my grandad fought for the British, I'm also interested in the German side of WW2 because of a fascinating occurence that happened. Searching through some old photographs, I came across a picture of a young German soldier that no-one recognized. There is no name, age or date on the picture to give details, only "SS Unterscharfuhrer". He got the nickname "Uncle Klaus"... for whatever reason. It's a bit confusing, but I would love to know who the man was and how the picture got in the house! I look forward to posting on here!
Hello Weisengel! Welcome to the forum! I'm rather new myself, but have had a lot fun already talking to these experts! I wonder if that photo could be a war mememto taken off a fallen soldier or something? Please keep us posted if you find out anything!
Thanks for the kind welcome everyone! The photo is with my family at the moment, but as soon as it's returned to me I will upload it on here. In the meantime, I've been told that the photo of "Uncle Klaus" was for sale on a Nazi memorabilia site! I couldn't believe it! I have no idea how true that is. They are either trying to wind me up or there are several copies of that photograph! I just find it all very strange...
