Here are the interesting bits of my latest Zeltbahn ( sorry about the shadow.....taking a pic too quickly) :

I particularly wanted a Walter Reichert ( 'Warei' ) Zeltbahn as this Berlin company applied for the original patent in 1929.

There are one or two rips and tears ( out will come the needle and thread again....;) ) but it's complete. Interestingly, the current repro ones used by re-enactors have 'Warei' markings but Zeltbahns are an expensive thing to re-create exactly.........

Another 'trinket' bought at yesterdays militaria show in Manchester.

A WW2 German 88mm flak shell with an armour piercing projectile. The shell was re-used after the war by (i think) the Finnish army, as the stenciling on the side of the shell casing shows. I bought each piece of the shell from different dealers.

Not matching items but nice together all the same. My mission now is to track down a flak projectile to go with the shell.

The three letter manufacturer code ATY is for the maker Maschinenfabrik fuer Massenverpackung, Luebeck-Schlutrup

I'm also hoping that there is a WaA stamp under the rust on the base of the shell casing. I'll let you know if I find one when I clean it up!

Thanks, Martin. I'm cuffed that I now have an 88mm shell...at last!

I actually bought two of the shells, each one from a different dealer. The other one is painted grey and has lots of clear post war stenciling on the side of the casing.

I'll post photos of it later.

    Yes, I suppose I am, Martin! :)

Although that 88mm shell base that my son found in the Falaise Gap region is a true "been there, seen it" relic.

I'll have to get a side by side photo of the relic and my complete shell.

Nice shells John, I have RN (empty of course) shells picked up on the D-Day beaches many years ago. I never took them out the box ever since . They are incredibly thick and heavy and I remember clearly seeing the WD arrow .

Here are three different French belts I picked up this weekend . From left to right black French Gendarme, French Officer and soldier version ones. Note the pic above with the French guard in the camp wearing one. Also note the similiarity with German officer belts.

Love the Carcano and the Toy Mess tin.

Direct first hand import from Deutschland:
The parcel arrived yesterday. Despite some mothing this Mantel is in good condition. The makers code are kind of hard to decypher, but the size figures sho it about a large size and the date seems to be 38 next to the LIE (I think?) maker marking.

    Yes, it is a stain.

Codes are as following : (in centimeters)

from top to bottom : 43 height of chest 52 sleeves? (not sure)
    65 = is length 79 = waist + size 38 (I think , hard to read)

then maker code (usually three letters or full name + two last years of the date = 38 on this one I think.)
