I also bought one photo album of a German artillery unit in the SU. Some photos below.

Kai,That bag is cool! To bad it did not have mail in it!
Skipper,Thanks. I had to buy it for $10. I have 2 of them on my Airborne belt/suspender set up. It is for mounted troops but the airborne guys used them. A friend in Den-Haag told me that they are a lot of money over there and are sold as airborne covers. The shotgun shell pouch was a better deal at $1. Rich A. in Pa.

Skylinedrive,Thanks! I looked on line and found a few for $75. I wish it was W.W.2 though. It does not matter. I do not have my Winchester 1897 trench broom any more. Rich A. in Pa.

Skylinedrive,I paid $100 for mine. When I sold it I got my money back and did not have to listen to my friend complaining about me not selling it to him all the time or him playing with it when he was over. It was fun to shoot though. Rich A. in Pa.

The rare M-1938 French field jacket. It's in somewhat battered condition because it was squatted by a mouse, but it's certainly worth restoration. I already found some m-38 collar tabs for an artillery regiment. Shoulder tabs are missing

what a great Restoration piece when the time permits Skipper, congrats.

Got a new find been looking forward to for the past 5 years to add to the KM Talley collection, this makes about 18. A good Heer friend watched the P.J. bombard Soviet troop and armor positions with the Prinz Eugen and Lützow in spring of 1945 during the long terrible retreat along the Baltic, still a very unknown part of the late war in the Ost. I have translated some of the Paul J.'[s late war diary and hopeful it is of interest the spelling errors are obviously mine of course and in the course it is an interesting read just to see how desperate the German ground and sea-borne forces really were as the daily pressure by the Soviets was constant towards Kurland, Danzig, etc........... and eventually towards Berlin.

    Z-5 Paul Jacobi

October 1943 enters Germaniawerft in Kiel for a complete refit

December 1943 under refit she is bombed by US bombers and damaged one by a direct hit and several misses.
still in port at Kiel through rest of 1943 and into April of 44 when she is raised so she must have had part sunk ? repairs continue to her hull and elsewhere.

18 July 1944 bombed this time by the RAF at night and damaged by near misses.
later in summer early fall she goes through the "Barbara arms refit program like most of the other KM Destroyers increase to 10 37mm Flak and 13 20mm Flak.....have to check how many were twins in this case.

November of 44 she returns to service armed and ready to go....... test runs between Stettin and Swinemünde in the Baltic of which later in 1945 she would be rather well acquainted. Interesting fuel mix at this time which really messes up the internal engine components, fuel made of pitch. A thorough clean-out of this un-useable fuel and she does more test running and protective duties into the Ost-Baltic in December of 1944 till 1944's end ..................

owards the end of December 1944 the Z-5 escorts the hospital ship Steuben to Swinemünde on the 13th and on the 15th does protective escorts with the T-35 over Reich administration in the Baltic Sea areas. 20th she carries extended ammo from Swinemünde in preparation for Flak escort of the Kreuzer Nürnberg and Hilfkreuzer Hansa she in load with the T-35 again, providing leading escort and Verbandführer of this smnall KM band.

January 19th, 1945 along with T-33 and T-35 escorts to Gotenhafen the MRS 11, Goya and Minden and the next day to Libau.

January 29th, 1945 the Paul Jacobi and Z-43 with escort tender Freighter Drechtdijck and the Minden make the run from Gotenhafen to Libau to release the breakout of the Heer XXVIII corps. with the Prinz Eugen, Z-23, Z-25, T-33 and T-35 she provides off-shore sea to land bombardments missions : in Sammland and resists all Soviet torpedo bomber attacks as with the rest of the KM floating batteries involved.
January 30th, 1945 protects the transporter Komet, Askari and the Preußen back to Gotenhafen.
January 31st, 1945 repeats the protective cover again and in the following days is in constant escort for KM shipping in the area of Gotenhafen to Libau to relieve the closely encircled Heer combat forces through evacuation and Soviet air attacks that never succeed. P.J. had the Atlantic bow put into practice as well as the taller goalpost foremast and reduced funnel caps; the4 foremast was similar in design and shape to the Z-10 and Z-15 Destroyers.

to the 4th of February 1945 continued the protective escorts of the Gotenhafen, Libau, Swinemünde run and on this day was rammed by accident by the Freighter Helga Schröder while coming into port. while under repairs she too on more light AA pieces......I can see why the P.Jacobi was used for protective work by early 45 she now had 10 3.7cm guns most of them twins and about 15 2cm weapons, most of them twins with 1 Flakvierling installed at # 3 gun position.

again during February provides escort and now more shore bombardments with Admiral Scheer , Z-31, Z-38 and T-36 near Wollin, more destruction of Soviet ground positions near Dievenow, Fritzow and Kammin in defense of Heer forces trying to just survive.

11 and 12th of March 1945 with the T-23 escorting the Prinz Eugen in shore bombardments
13th of march P.Jacobi returns to re-arm at Gotenhafen.
14th of March she returns to bombard the soviets at Zoppot and remains as AA porotection to the Prinz Eugen as she returns salvo after slavo on the soviets.
21st of March the Paul Jacobi bombards Soviet positions at Groß-Katz and the following day at Lensitz totally destroying the Soviet land units here. Soviet air attacks are in-effective again on the ship and the Prinz.
in the evening the P.J. returns to Hela and on the 23rd of March 1945 along with the Prinz Eugen and Lützow bombards the Soviets at Zoppot again.
March 24th, 1945 escorting two ships back to Copenhagen......then the return back to Gotenhafen long voyage to pick up German evacuees then following morning b ack to Copenhagen along with evacs on Z-25 and Transports goya, Potsdam and Kanonier with a total of 22,000 people. On the evening of the 25th along with Z-25 returns again to Gotenhafen for a repeat journey of souls.....from the land-stip of Hela and again the 3 KM transport ships are also involved carrying off another 22,000 souls to Copenhagen by the 28th of march 45.
Escort on the lawt days of march 45 for the shiP Deutschland, and hospital ship Pretoria to Copenhagen along with supportive escort T-11. Back to Hela for more evacuee's and shore bombardments in-land and continues to provide the cover on sea and in-land against the Woviets on April 8, 1945 with the Kreuzer Prinz Eugen and Lützow. The small Kampfgruppe sails back to Swinemünde to re-arm and returns to shell more Soviet truppen as they advance in strength and on the 13th the P.J. and the Lützow shell the Soviets near Swinemünde through the 18th of April also evacuating what civilian populace could be contacted.
On the 19th of April 45 the P.J. sails to Rostcok through april 30th providing more off-shore bombardments towards Warnow.

during the 30th of April the P.J. encounters British artillery and responds to them and then back to shelling the Russians on 1st of may 1945. She sails to Kiel on the 2nd of may 45, and into the Geltinger Bucht on the 3rd of May. She performs her last evacuation duties with other ships of all sizes, whatever can be found on the evening of the 3rd of May, transporting those fortunate enough to be living from Hela and the Kurland Kessel, sailing back to protective waters towards Mürwik with dead and wounded over 3 days of travels. the 5th of May she is called off all duties.
21st of may 1945 she is in British hands which go through her thouroughloy then by the 4th of February 1946 she is in French hands at Cherbourg serving in the French Marine and renamed in 1947 as the "Desaix". De-commissioned entirely in 1954 and finally sunk as a wreck off Rouen France in 1958...............

I receive regular emails from Bunkermilitaria about their latest items for sale. They often have some nice bits up for grabs on their website but their overseas shipping costs are high.

I once asked them for the postage cost to send a small item (think it was a helmet strap) to the UK and they quoted me $40+ dollars!
