Found a great video on History Televisions Greatest Tank Battles in which the South Alberta Regiment (My Dad served with 1940-1946) had a part in Great Story In February 1945, Canadian forces launch an attack to cross the Rhine and enter the German heartland. This is the story of the struggle for the Hochwald Gap – the final obstacle blocking the Allies, which the Germans are determined to hold at any cost. Videos - History Television
Somehow, I'd missed the video links at the site before. Thank you - a lot of viewing for me now. Glad you brought up this battle. Have you read Dennis Whitaker's book Rhineland?
Whitaker's book was the first thing that came to mind when I read the original post. The seminal work on that campaign. Greg C.
No but I'll definately check it out thank you I came into contact of a author named Sherry McNair who wrote "Soldiers All" which was about the South Albertas........but alas I can't find it anywhere Her father was in the same tank as my Dad's cousin who also served in the SAR and almost the same initials as my dad but his name was Maurice Amyotte and my Dads was Moise. They never knew there were in the same regiment till after the war when they met at a reunion. It's possibly somebody here knows of where to get my hands on this book send me a pm....I'll definatley have a look to purchase
It's pronounced Vida-stine-nest. Other wise you'd think "Wide Nest" The most popular Widerstand Nest is "Widerstand nest 62". On Omaha Beach, that one I will use to explain since I've been there."All Widerstand nest are the same as this one."
