Good morning. My primary interest in joining the Forum is to see if I can locate any of the crew that served with my father F/S George Edward Gard, air gunner who joined 514 Squadron, Waterbeach in Mar 1945. Dad will be 90 in Dec 2010. I have obtained his service records from the National Library Canada and we are blessed to have 37 letters he wrote home from Jul 1944 to Jul 1945 plus his RCAF Flying Log. He trained #10 B & G School, Summerside, PEI Feb to Jun 1944 and served with #12 Operational Training Unit, Chipping Warden form Aug to Dec 1944 and 1668 Heavy Conversion Unit Bottsford, Notts Jan to Mar 1945 when he joined 514 squadron. According to his letters the crew was F/O Eddie Monaghan, Skipper, CAN; P/O Johnny Channel, WOP, ENG; P/O Bill Mooker, Bomb Aimer, CAN; P/O Smith, Nav, Wallaceburg, ON, CAN; Sgt Mike Furey, Rear Gunner, Winnipeg, MAN, CAN; F/S George Gard, Mid Upper Gunner, Embro, ON, CAN.; Flight Engineer, Desmond (may be a first or last name). Eddie Monaghan, I understand died 4/5 yeras ago in NH, USA. We have no idea whether any of the crew still are alive and was hoping some posts on sites such as this would reach any survivors of that crew or their families.
