Hi Everyone My name is Michael. Im 46 yrs. old and live in the northern part of Germany. I joined up on this forum because I am hoping to find out some informations about my grandpa. He served in the german Wehrmacht during WW2 for 6 years. He is missing in action till January 1945. He took part on the tank-combat of Hatten/Rittershoffen in January 1945. He fought in 220. Tank engineer-bataillon of the 21. Armored Division. When I started to find out more about my grandpa the only information I had was one picture of him. After reading lots of papers and books I am knowing that he fought 3 years on the eastern front where he was wounded several times. In 1944 he wasn´t able to fight at the front. But in december 1944 when Hitler took old men and 15 yrs. old young-ones - everyone who seemed to able to fight - he was orded to take part on operation "Nordwind". His unit fought in Hatten against the 2. Bataillon of the 315. US infantry-regiment. Maybe I also can help others members by informations about german units in combats, etc.. I look forward to joining in on this forum and hope to learn many new things. Michael P.S. I am sorry if my english isn´t that good -- but I will try my best
Welcome Michael, i'm not by far an expert on the eastern front. All I can say though is post this on information request, with everything you got. Trust me someone will know! We look forward to having you here! P.S. Don't worry my friend, i'm in the 10th grade, and your english still beats mine A for effort!
Welcome Michael, your English is just fine. I hope people will be able to help you with your quest. Enjoy your stay with us.
Welcome Michael. As Skipper stated, your English is just fine, probably better than my German. Post this request, with more information & title specific to your request in the Information Reqest section.
Michael, Gutten Tag und Wie Gehts !! Welcome to this great forum. As Ulrich knows, German participation is always welcomed. May your brave Grossvater rest in piece. Steve
Hello Michael and welcome to the forum. The wealth of knowledge on this fine forum knows no bounds, so i'm sure that the information you seek will come your way. I'll be in Germany in a few weeks time when I go on a camping trip to the Hurtgen forest region. I'm hoping that the weather will be as good as on previous trips so I can get out in to the forest for a spot of relic hunting and walking.
Hello Michael, Welcome from Wyoming and I hope you can find the information you are looking for. Your english is great so no worries there. I love reading about the WWII veterans from all countries, and I probably have tons of questions myself! Please tell us anything you can, I think most of us enjoy reading the stories. Krystal
