Hi Everyone, I got my dads war record through a few months ago but I am having trouble linking dates and things to make any sense out of them, I am hoping that with the vast knowledge on the forum you may be able to help me, I have some older threads with photo's and info if you are interested in my journey so far. The dates are as follows, 5th btn DCLI 20/10/39 Posted to 3rd para btn 2/10/41 embarked for N Africa 7/11/42 disembarked 23/11/42 embarked N Africa 27/11/43 disembarked UK 23/12/43 Posted to Netheravon 23/2/44 I know that he was at Netheravon training but he was not part of the Arnham drop as he told me he had been given another assignment, 3 para was involved in Operation Torch and dropped into Bone airfield but my father was on a ship at that time heading for N Africa, his medals include N Africa star with 1st Army Clasp, and the Italy Star but the record didn't mention Italy? I know these records can be a bit vague and sometimes incorrect but I can't match dates or find info that might shed light on the part he played during these operations, any help from you guys would be much appreciated, Many thanks Dave
Just been checking the 1st parachute brigade on para data and the N Africa campaign, and looks like the dates fall within the time frame that my dads records show, so I hope that this is the answer but would like your comments please if you think i'm wrong. many thanks Dave

Hi, this might be a dumb question, but where did you get your Dads WWII records from? I would be interested in researching my Dads WWII service. I know some of it, who he served with and where, his serial number and rank -luckilly he was in the TA's before the war, so I have his long service medal which has his name , unit, rank & serial number. Thanks, Jerry
Paras? Already obtained records? Does sound like it might float rather well... Good luck Marauder. Was he a British Soldier Jerry? (I'm guessing so because of 'TA') I can point you at how to obtain service records in the UK, but each country has a different system, so it's better to have it explained by one who knows the local scheme. Guidance for the UK here: Requesting UK Service Records - WW2F & Here: WW2 Service Records Address - World War 2 Talk (Double check any postal addresses on the relevant websites, as they do change from time to time.) ~A
Hi and thanks for the links. My Dad was a sergeant with the royal signals and served in N africa and Italy and was mentioned in despatches. I have his medals, including afrika and italy stars, 39-45 star, war medal -with oak leaf for the mention-, defence medal and the TA long service medal. Thanks, Jerry Was he a British Soldier Jerry? Hi Jerry sorry but I have been off for a while, I down loaded the forms as I was the next of kin from Veterns.uk, they charge £30 for the search, but if you are spouse of the deceased it's free, but it took 6 mths to get them back as they are very busy, my wife has just sent off for her Dads records, he was in Burma. You are lucky to have that info as I had no Army number and they still found it. so go for it it's worth it.
Thanks guys for the links, very intresting reading, I think I will have a ride out to Duxford as I believe they have the 1st Airborne Division exibition there, only about 40 mins up the road. thanks again for all your help.
Hi Everyone I have posted a thread on the Military Records & geneology forum to update my thread by mistake under Para Data, please take a look if you are still interested in how this all ends. many thanks Dave
