    Hi

I am a new member and I am trying to get information about my Father who served in WWII in the 42nd RTR in North Africa and then NW Europe. He was transferred to the 1st East Riding Yeomanry in November 1944 when the 42nd RTR was disbanded. I know that during his time with the 42nd he was trained in the use of CDL and he was a driver. He took part in the first Rhine crossings driving buffaloes.

    Hi

My Father was Trooper John (Jack) Hurlstone, he was enlisted in January 1942 and posted to the 42nd Royal Tank Regiment on 10 September 1942. He served in Egypt and Palestine. He served in NW Europe August 1944 until August 1946. On 14 November 1944 he was posted to the 1st East Riding Yeomanry.

    His army number was 7946472

I know he was involved in the Battle of The Bulge and he was in the first waves of troops crossing the Rhine, he was a Tank Driver and drove Buffaloes over the Rhine. At the end of the war he was posted into the Kiel area of northern Germany guarding the U Boat pens there.
