I went to the thrift store today just to kill some time. While there I found a hat that looks like a it may be part of a military uniform. I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to stuff like this, So I took a shot in the dark. I only paid 50 cents for it so either way its no big deal.

    Awesome Thanks!

Is there anyway to tell what era its from? I'm guessing its Infantry, there's a light blue on the list, But it says piped yellow and there is no yellow on the one I have.

Yeah I figured blue was right, But I wasn't sure cause it looks light blue to me. It is in kinda rough shape though. The leather band on the inside is coming off in a few spots, Also There used to be a tag but it was ripped off.

well now that's what I call a bargain!

How much would the cap be worth if it was resold?

There is quite a disparity in pricing. I have seen them offered for $5.00, just like the one Josh has, and they don't sell. I have also seen them offered with a DUI or a PIR/GIR flash attached for $50.00-$100.00 and they sell in the blink of an eye.

Yeah the price was why I was skeptical at first. And even if it is not worth anything, I still enjoy owning it.

I looked them up on Ebay after sniper told me what it was. The prices are all over the place. It doesn't really matter tho I have no intention of selling it. It's my first piece of Militaria that didn't belong to my grandfather.

Also it does look as if there was a pin on it at one point. What type of pins would have gone on this cap? I would like to get a pin for it.

I suspect the most likely pin would have been rank bars etc. if it was on the front left.

The holes I see where a pin may have been is on that side. But not in the same spot, Its closer to the piping. I tried to take a picture, However I cant get it to show up in the pic.

maybe a different rank possibly extends higher, but i found nothing that sits much above that - perhaps some of the veterans associations use pins?

Here's a photo of a guy from my father's unit. He has his unit pin on his cap. I'm not sure if the location is anything like where the holes are on your find, but I thought you might find this helpful.

no the holes on mine are higher. I have not seen a pic of a pin where the holes are on mine. Leading me to believe I jumped the gun on my assumption it had pin on it at one time. Never the less thanks for the pic, It will help me place the pin when I get it.

Awesome, That's what I wanted to hear, I'm gonna use the We Sweep the Sky pin. It took forever to find one, Before I found the link posted below, I only found a few original's. One was already sold, The other was part of a lot that was up to $100 and was not in very good condition.

Nice cap and in good condition. Not worth a lot of money but still interesting to have. One day they will get harder to find.

I was at the same thrift store yesterday, and found what I believe is a jacket from a WWII uniform. I didn't have any cash on me so I hid it as best i could LOL. I'm gonna go pick it up today its priced at $7. My computer busted, I'm posting this from the library. So it may be a few days before I get pictures posted. It doesn't have any patches except for 3 overseas bars on the sleeve.

here is the jacket the price on it was $7.50

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

When I first looked at it I didn't see a tag, but upon further inspection I found the tag its located in one of the inside pockets. Its dated June 8, 1944 the pattern date reads 5/10/44. I also found this scrap of paper in one of the front pockets. I'm not sure what it means tho.

Any info on this item is greatly appreciated!

PS. I'm not sure why but in the pictures it came out looking 3 different colors. The first picture is the color it really is.

Josh, whatever you do, keep going to that thrift store. That's a regulation WWII Ike Jacket-part of the class A uniform.
Someone removed the shoulder insigna and everything else except the three overseas bars. Whoever owned this was overseas for a year and a half. (6 months each). without any other stuff I can't tell you where. Looks like it once belonged to someone named Erickson and became the posession of someone whose name began with G, and his service number ended with 1966. They used this code for laundry purposes.
The slip of paper appears to be the name of a German SS Lt. Probably met him as a POW. This would be worth researching.

Thank you so much for the info. It amazes me that I have been able to find this kind of stuff here. They also have 5 or 6 camo uniforms, 2 of them have U.S. Navy patches on them. I'm not sure what era they are from tho.
