'Titanic' star Gloria Stuart dies at 100 | Gold Derby | Los Angeles Times Speaking of Titanic, "Gloria Stuart, whose acting career spanned seven decades, died Monday at age 100. The one-time studio contract player capped off a comeback with her 1997 appearance in "Titanic" as the older version of Kate Winslet's character. Her screen time, though short, framed the film and set up the enduring love story at its center. Gloria Stuart rode the wave of success that came with "Titanic" with style and grace. As Dennis McLellan details, "In 'Gloria Stuart: I Just Kept Hoping,' her 1999 autobiography written with her daughter Sylvia Thompson, Stuart said that after reading the script, 'I knew the role I had wanted and waited for all these many years had arrived! I could taste the role of Old Rose!'"
When I spotted that obit, I was surprised to find she had "dropped out" of the Hollywood scene until Titanic, I did remember her from the thirties "oldies" movies on TMC and AMC channels, but was not aware her return was so late. Fine actress, and she had a good, long, and productive run. Rest In Peace Ms. Stuart.
100 years old. What a long lifespan when you think about it. And this lovely lady, bless her heart, hit her peak of stardom when she was 87! I think she would give Churchill a run for the money as someone who figured they were past their prime only to become world famous in their later years.
Actually, some of her earlier stuff was something to be noted for. Glad that she had a great career though.
