Hi everyone, I have been doing research on my grandfather and his brother, specifically their service in WWII. I don't have allot of info about my grandfather, the archives haven't been able to find any info (due to the fires). I know that my grandfather was in I Company of the 85th, based on a V-Mail I have that he sent my grandmother in 1945. I do know that after he was wounded, he was moved over to the 10th Mountain (most likely as a casualty replacement) and after the war he went back to Colorado with them before he went home to Arkansas. Thanks to the Archivist at the Denver Public Library for that last bit of info. He was Tec4 Benson, Ervin E 38444186 and served and was wounded in Italy. So as I get around to searching more and finding out where and what to look for, I will collect more info. BTW I chose my handle based on the way most people were addressed when in the military, by the last name, or at least that is the way I was addressed.
My great uncle was drafted into the Marine Corps. I have been fortunate (at least I hope so) with the National Archives. I am waiting to see what $60.00 gets me. In three generations of family, the tally was, 1 Army, 3 USMC, 1 Navy. My grandfather and his brothers all received Purple Hearts in WWII. My cousin and myself were fortunate enough to serve without seeing serious conflict.
