I've been watching the rescue of the Chilean miners on my computer. What an incredible story. I can't imagine being trapped underground 2000 feet for more than two months. It's been interesting following the story, and now gratifying to watch the rescue actually occur. The first rescue just happened about 15 minutes ago, and the chamber is on its way down for the next one. I'll be watching for a while.
I just saw the first miner get out live on TV. It's quite moving. It's nice to see that in aworld where mankind is capable of using technology for mass destruction, it can also use this energy to save a few individuals instead.
I get the feeling there's gonna be a movie about this event. It's pretty neat to watch the rescue live. I'm glad it's all turning out well. Pretty historical event.

Quite so. At a time when I'm heartily sick of 'bad news' the sight of the miners being rescued was uplifting and moving.
This is indeed great news for the miners and their families. It also gives the government of Chili worldwide recognition as "going the extra mile" to save its citizens. This, in a strange twist led one cartoonist to point out the difference between them and Chinese miners. See 'toon.
What a great ending to a griping story, so glad it worked out well......and for those few rescue guys that actually went down to help the miners .... I think some sort of rescue medal is in order!
Truly an amazing story, and I'm even more happy as more then just Chilean's had held their breath for these unlucky guys.
A round of applause for all concerned. Too many miners have disappeared this way in the past. The average West Virginia Coal miner would certainly agree that this is an above average result for something that could have turned into an even bigger tragedy. Weren't there people killed in this disaster? We should be thinking of their loss as well. For the families of those that did not make it out, the suffering goes on. I hope that money flowing into the pockets of these lucky miners can be shared with the families of those who are not here to savour this event.
I don't believe there were any miners killed during this accident. According to this Wiki article, the 33 were one of two groups in the mine at the collapse. One group was nearer to the surface and able to get out.
